Just reading the first paragraph, I knew it would be Phaneuf that went through new skates every couple of weeks.  The dude has to be the most anal person when it comes to equipment.  That's beyond excessive, it's really a waste.  Not even Crosby goes through skates that fast.

10-14 days is not only ridiculos but just a plain out waste. What about the big guys like Chara & Byfuglien? Is the amount close to Phaneuf?

Chara said he goes thru around 7 pairs a year. I think it was in one of those pure hockey videos.

To be fair, the Leafs sell all his skates apparently. So they are used again, presumably.

 

Do the Leafs pay for his equipment, or does he? Or is it given to him from the companies?

Paul Coffey used a new pair every game.  In Detroit Mike Illitch wife asked why the skate expense was so high.

Didn't Paul Coffey used to wear one pair a year, squeezing all the life out of them? Messier used to order 30 pairs a year.

Im sure the leafs get a break on the price because phaneuf is a reebok endorsed athlete, the cost may go to the pro service account.

I was told the same thing about Coffey , several times and once again tonight.
Also about some ridiculously small sizing.

Coffey preferred his skates to fit as tightly as possible, and wore two sizes smaller than his shoes. They were tied with two sets of laces, one laced from the bottom to half way up, and the other from the halfway point to the top. The skates were so tight that rather than untying them trainers cut the laces to remove his skates after every game.

 

Duno how to fix the colour but yeah .

maybe that's why phaneuf skates so bad, it's cause he's trying to break in skates all the time....

Just the thought of breaking in a new pair of skates every couple of weeks makes me cringe.  Even with baking, it usually takes a few skates before I'm comfortable in new boots.

 

Maybe his problem is the fact he uses Reebok.  Maybe a Bauer in +2 stiffness would be beneficial (obviously a pointless thought since he's signed with Reebok).

Im not sure but i think 3 is standard at 4 is the highest. I forget where I read that
