Hey guys.  Looking for opinions on shoulder pads.

I play in non-checking leagues and pickup.  Things can get chippy, but nothing serious.

I currently play without shoulder pads, but really want to wear them because I keep getting hit by shots and errant passes!

Looking for something really low profile and lightweight.

I was checking out the Sherwood 5030's on Hockeymonkey.com.

Can anyone recommend them or provide their opinion?

Any alternatives that are just as good and/or cheap?

Thanks guys and gals!

5030. Hands down. Further, some NHLers wear 5030s, so I'd suggest that 5030s are also the best for checking leagues. I'd never wear anything bulkier.

Great.  Thanks for the feedback.
I think I've also seen guys throwing the Warrior shoulder caps on them, too.  No?

Yup. Other alternatives are the Bauer Supreme Classic or the Farrells if you can find those.

Thanks guys.

Think I'm gonna pick up the Sherwoods and give 'em a try.

Can't complain when they're as cheap as they are!

I recommend bauer classics
The Sherwood caps seemed to straight for me were the Bauers were more "cups" if that makes sense...felt like a better fit for me at least
Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

Jofa or Reebok chest piece with 5030 Caps... Protect the heart and other soft parts at least a little more than the 5030s do.

How difficult is it to take and replace caps? I love my 6k's, but the shoulder caps are way too much, plus it's a pain to put my jersey on too.

The Speedy Stitcher is your best friend. Not hard at all with it.

if you can find them CCM Dryland 250's are the best non-check league shoulder pads out there. VERY low-profile and the most breathable pads I've ever seen:

I was looking at the Bauer Classics, but Hockeymonkey is sold out.  I've got a $10 coupon I'd like to use.

i play without shoulders too. have tired a bunch of different ones. i have bauer classics, big jofas, hespeler old-school style (like 5030). the issue i have with the bauer classics is the anatmoical fit is terrible. maybe the 5030's have a better anatomical fit but the bauers and most of the 'classic' style shoulders just don't fit the body very well.

i'd like some small light shoulders that have a nice anatomic fit. the sherwood classic caps might work well on the jofa's i have, didn't think of that solution. the jofa caps are just too huge, could never get used to them.
