I just wanted to pick your brains on something that has been bugging me for a while....
When I started playing the gear wasn't important to me, I thought if it fits its alright. Then in the middle of my first season I had a chance to buy some X:60 (coming from Vapor x3.0) skates, and my world changed. I started paying attention to gear, looking around the locker room what kind of gear the others had, asked them questions about their gear, frequented my LHS, and so on. I registered on multiple hockey message boards such as this one, started modifying / altering / repairing gear, made some connections to buy used pro-gear, started looking into different curves (which isn't easy over here), built my own shooting rig in the attic, and so on.
Now hardly a week goes by when I don't purchase anything hockey specific (ice or roller), I own sufficient gear for 3-4 sets, every day I frequent at least 3 different message boards every day, I keep an open tab in my browser for local websites selling used gear, my youtube subscription list consists mostly of hockey gear and training channels. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy every minute of it, but sometimes when I look through my bills for each month I think this is borderline addictive behavior.
What do you guys think, do you still regard hockey gear (whether it is reading up on it or stock-piling it) as "part of the game", as a hobby by itself (the term collector comes to mind) or do you think you've also reached the stage where it might be classified as an addiction?
