I just wanted to pick your brains on something that has been bugging me for a while....

When I started playing the gear wasn't important to me, I thought if it fits its alright. Then in the middle of my first season I had a chance to buy some X:60 (coming from Vapor x3.0) skates, and my world changed. I started paying attention to gear, looking around the locker room what kind of gear the others had, asked them questions about their gear, frequented my LHS, and so on. I registered on multiple hockey message boards such as this one, started modifying / altering / repairing gear, made some connections to buy used pro-gear, started looking into different curves (which isn't easy over here), built my own shooting rig in the attic, and so on.

Now hardly a week goes by when I don't purchase anything hockey specific (ice or roller), I own sufficient gear for 3-4 sets, every day I frequent at least 3 different message boards every day, I keep an open tab in my browser for local websites selling used gear, my youtube subscription list consists mostly of hockey gear and training channels. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy every minute of it, but sometimes when I look through my bills for each month I think this is borderline addictive behavior.

What do you guys think, do you still regard hockey gear (whether it is reading up on it or stock-piling it) as "part of the game", as a hobby by itself (the term collector comes to mind) or do you think you've also reached the stage where it might be classified as an addiction?

There is a topic I created about why we love gear and pro stock.

Also even if it was an addiction, in a group where all of us joined because we love gear, do you think that anyone wants to admit it?

Pro stock anonymous. It'll help.

Hockey is Life. The rest is just details.

It is an addiction. I never cared before about buying gear and stuff but now this site opened up a whole new world haha.

its a fun addiction. either to collect to use, to flip, whatever. its also a nice way to pass time, looking at gear, figuring out what you wantnext. i find after I have everything i want, and nothing new is coming down the road, I get a bit bummed. also nice to be chasing or waiting for something. reebok ribcor, even though my ai9s are fine, are next on my list for august release. trying to be good until then

It is an addiction IMO. Although it is considered an addiction it causes no harm to others like drugs or alcohol would with the exception of your pocket book. ๐Ÿ˜ I enjoy collecting and wearing gear from my favorite teams and players not to mention the superior quality and the price difference! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜ƒ
Pavel Datsyuk Gear or any wings gear!

I am a gear head and I love it. if and when I make more money, my stockpile withshowcasw that. I love this site especially bc there seems to be a common ground with specifics of gear.

This is much different than the standard beer league player or pro that just wants functional gear. It seems here, it's more about specifics and less about 'well, this will work' and that's why I appreciate this site the most for gear.
