I waited 13 months for my Whalers QRL. I was sidelined with an ACL injury for a good 10 months of that, so it didn't really matter. But I don't see myself sending any more gloves to them. Their work is impeccable and worth every dollar, but at some point the wait isn't worth it.

Ha, I'd love 13 months at this point.

100%. I talked to Joe at Hockey Menders about this a while back and he was saying it's tough finding anyone who actually wants to do the work

Right, most are not as successful as CPR. I guess it's the end of an era, between MIA and then Warrior customs and then Easton custom going under and now CPR being basically pro only, there's not really anyone out there who can do cuff mods or anything beyond palms and gussets.

I've tried repalming gloves and it is extremely hard and frustrating to do properly. I was able to cut the old palms out and stitch pre-mades palms back on, but while the palms were functional, they didn't look or feel like the original palms. The full repalming process that CPR and Hockey Menders use requires tons of time and precision.

1. Measuring, hand-cutting, and sewing the palms

2. Unstitching and detaching the cuffs from the base of the gloves

3. Unstitching and removing the binding and all old palm materials and threads from inside the binding

4. Sewing the new palm on with proper tension throughout the entire glove

5. Using a binding attachment to install brand new binding on the thumb and pinky

6. Stitching the cuff back onto the glove with proper tension and alignment

That doesn't even include gussets or any cuff mods. In addition, the machines required to do this work cost thousands of dollars. My basic machine (around $1,300) wasn't able to do it. I was able to borrow my previous neighbor's vintage leatherwork machine to practice. I plan to buy my own eventually after moving to my new shop, but even then I'd need to practice for a long time before offering repalming as a service.

"What is your lowest/best price?" is NOT an offer.

No doubt it's very hard, but I'm sure you've bought a pair of gloves with EQM mods that are absolutely atrocious. I feel like there's gotta be a couple pro equipment guys who should be able to learn this trade

Definitely. EQM's are under a ton of time constraints and pressure, so they get the mods done as fast as possible. I'm sure some could do a great job if given ample time and practice.

For repalming, I recommend ITR Hockey. He does a pretty good job with clean stitching and has a variety of palms available, including multiple colors of digital. His turnaround is fast (I had my gloves back in a week) and he is very easy to work with. The only caveat is that he has to stitch the palm over the current thumb and pinky binding. If that doesn't bother you, ITR Hockey a good option for repalms/gussets.

I've done full classic car restorations since I was a kid, thanks to my dad. Body work, paint, and more importantly custom interior upholstery. I've been on a sewing machine for almost 25 years. I mod just about every glove I get. The time to strip, measure, cut patterns, and do the work just isn't worth it. People don't want to pay for the work, or the craft. I even send my stuff out because what they charge is dirt cheap compared to the hours they put in. My dream would be to open up a custom glove mod/repair shop, but I know the market isn't there. I totally understand why they went with the pro route

Maybe things will get back to normal with CPR ,  now that the Covid shutdowns are farther behind in the World.

100% agreed. Palm material isn't cheap. Cutting and sew the palms, meticulously sewing them in, stitching new binding, and finally putting the gloves back together takes hours of work with minimal profit. You really have to love the craft to commit to it. I'd love to offer is as a service one of these days, but most people would rather just buy new gloves. Us pro stock geeks with our crazy mods are just a small fraction of the market.

By comparison: I bought a profiler for $3.5K last year and while profiling steel is way easier than repalming, I have yet to make even close of my investment back. I charge $50 per profile, which includes maintenance/re-profiling throughout the life of the steel. Most customers don't care about profiling and the ones that do usually only have one set done. I've only done about 20 full profiles so far and need to do about 50 more to break even. I'm hoping my new location will attract more customers since I'll be the only one that can profile in the area. I was competing with a few other shops at my old location. On the flip side, I was able to profile all of my steel and being able to profile my steel at any time makes the purchase worth it.

I suspect the next time I’m able to send stuff to CPR will be the last time I’ll be able to get custom mods by them so I’m slowly stocking up on multiple pairs I would want done.

Custom everything.

Those are rad, if he didn't cut off the extended forearm piece I would jump on them.  I know that "Pro Series" by Bauer is sold overseas, I've seen the shoulder pads before but never the elbows, looks like a much nicer version of the 3S Pros.
