I'm gonna revive this one! What can they do about ankle issues? I'd totally drop a grand if the skates were gonna be PERFECT and fit me like a glove - er, sock.

I'm pretty sure custom charges are about $75 to $100 more than retail pricing so it's close to $1,000 after US tax

How do they decrease the stiffness of the boot? Are they still using CURV composite or are they using a different material?

I know that mine I got to choose a stiffness from level 1-4. 1 is the softest and 4 is the stiffest. 2 level is the same as retail stock. MX3 are still curve custom or retail.

But around the ankle bones, is there any modding they can do? Do they take specific measurements around there for a more exact fit?

Custom skates are only as good or reputable as your fitter.

And you could always go for the v cut nexus boot if you want something a little less stiff.

Yes, watch pure hockeys gear talk with the pros on youtube and in Dougie Hamilton's episode about his skates, he talks about specific areas

"The difference between an amateur and a pro is that an amateur does it when he wants to do it, a pro does it because he wants to do it" -Ryan Walter

Sweet video. I ended up in a Youtube loop and watched a lot of them. I don't think Bauer would go to quite those lengths for me though.

anyone know what more or less eyelets accomplishes? Im guessing more eyelets means more lacing and less give but im curious if anyone knows for sure. Saw a pair of brewers skates that had like 4 more than the retail versions

I've seen Selanne's skate with the top eyelet removed. The quarter extends all the way up to the normal height, but there just isn't a hole there. When I lace up I don't do up the top eyelet. For me it's to allow for a bit more forward flexion. I "grew up" on Grafs, and on the 705s I had, the ankle didn't run as high as on Bauers, CCMs, and Eastons.

I wouldn't even get into eyelet numbers. That's super advanced custom that I don't think needs to be entertained.
