This is from a stick that had 6+ year old tape on the butt end. How would you get rid of this remaining stuff? I tried using the packing tape trick but it doesn't stick so it can't lift anything.
How would you get rid of this tape residue?

Warm it up with a heat gun and wipe it off. Use Google gone or goof off for the remaining residue.

Tried WD40. Either I'm not doing it right or it just didn't work...

Spray WD40 directly on it let it sit for a min then wipe with rag, repeat as needed.
