I'm surprised there isn't a thread on S2K about this already, especially since the excitement about the new Step Edge steel.

For those who don't know, Step and VH have teamed up to build a new style holder and steel combo which has deeper channels to hold the steel in place and stop the lateral steel movement found in the Edge system, a new quick replacement system (around 30 seconds) and of course the same step steel we know and love.

Correct me if i am seeing this wrong, the skate still needs to come off the foot to change the steel ?

No the bolt is at the end of the holder like Graf cobra holder but much better quality and design.

This is interesting! That photo seems to be taken at éguisage elite. Great place to get your skates profiled or sharpened!

Yeah, their (éguisage elite's) new sharpening system sounds really great!

Prefer the bolted in blade over the edge system, still allows for quick release too.

Tickle the twine

Step is saying a change of steel should be around 30 seconds or so, which is obviously a little longer than the Edge system. However the new Step system is more secure (no more blades flying out) and seats the steal deeper to reduce lateral movement of the steel in the holder.

I mean a 30 second steel change vs 15-20 seconds, does it really make a difference? You shouldn't miss a shift either way.

Here's CP31 using a slightly different version of the holder

The pic of just the steel by itself is Carey's steel, which is way it's a super long radius and thinned out. I posted it mainly so you can see the attachment system. The players steel is similar to what we've seen from Step before.

Holder looks the same as the player just with the front and back dimples cut out for goalie lacing.

There's the holder and steel together. I'm hoping to have the specs (height, feel) of the holders soon!

They look like a cross between SB4.0 and ICM.

The holder seems very interesting.

All VH skates will now come with these I assume?

You still have your choice of holders.

éguisage elite in QC has them too I believe.

I haven't tried them yet but apparently they are have a slight stiffer feel than LS Edge, more like SB's from what I've heard.
