Ive just got a can of pure acetone from home depot. Worked on my 4500 perfect.  Havent tried it on a v08 yet though, I know theyre harder to remove.

I've tried nail polish remover in the past, but had no luck, so I just switched to electrical tape to cover it.  :dunno:

Everything I see online says to avoid chemicals because it'll break down the plastics.  Has anyone actually noticed a degradation in the material, or is it just an old wive's tale?

Max steez.

I know a lot more than you about collecting bud, so save the shit

Zero, if you go too heavy you'll take the shine away from the helmet. That's all I've noticed

Generally whatever doesn't come off with nail polish remover will come off with Goo gone. As already mentioned, the worst that will happen is you'll lose a bit of the shine.

Pure acetone works well. Just be careful, use gloves and in a well ventilated area.

Has anyone used plastic wax or another product to bring the shine back?

I second this. Great for cleaning visors as well!

Not sure what everyone else was using to apply the product they were using(I used goo gone), but I first used a regular wash rag style small towel to remove the sticker residue from the numbers that were on the back of a helmet and it made the finish pretty dull in that spot. When I moved to the sides to remove the residue under those stickers, I switched to a micro fiber type towel and it didn't take away the shine. It also worked well to remove the front logo.
