Unstitched a 2.0 Anaheim Ducks and had the outline of glue. Just noticed the post about the toothbrush and good-off, thanks I'll try that.

Also thanks for the post about the miserable time on the Carolina 3.0. I bet it was the same guy I bought one from, with the socks. Jag off tried to send me a 2.0, then apologized but went awol. Ended up having my first official eBay return. I almost thought about trying him again, cause it is cheap, but you saved me the effort.

^Yeah, same guy that sells the jersey and socks combo.  I got 2 from him so far (luckily the right ones), and neither is going to come off without some kind of miracle.

What’s up Sports2k Fam,

I wanted to revive this thread a bit and see what other folks have come up with that works or didn’t work.

I recently picked up several caps practice Jerseys and wanted to a crest removal a try. I decided to try the Navy uni. As you can see in the photo. It didn’t go to well. To say that this was frustrating is an understatement.

For me the methods used were:

  • Steam the back of the jersey and pull the fabric away from the crest (on the inside of the jersey

  • Used seam ripper to remove any and all stitching

  • Used the steamer to gently and carefully peel the crest off (residue was around perimeter)

  • Used dull knife and steamer to try to remove the glue residue

I was looking into trying chemicals to remove the residue, but wasn’t sure exactly where to start.

I was wondering what process you all have had success with and which team? I figured that a more circular logo team would be a bit easier to pull off?

Get pure acetone. Put on small portions and scrub with a toothbrush. It’ll take a while, but it’ll come off. I’ve had WAY worse jerseys than that.

Stripping jerseys is a hit or miss. Some strip clean others are glued down so hard they’re ruined. This one is easily salvageable

Dichloromethane is the nuclear option. It’s the only thing that will get that white cement off every time. Only use it on darks though.

Thanks for the responses fellas!

Fooj: What was your method of using it? Let it sit and then what did you use to scrape it off?

Doubt you want to let it sit. Typically you apply small amounts , work it in/brush around the area you’re working on, and then move onto the next area. Putting too much on or letting it sit can ruin the jersey. BTDT

Yeah its really nasty stuff. Make sure you have a chemical mask on and chemical gloves.  Its a carcinogen from what i read.

I turned the jersey inside out, put the biggest piece of flat cardboard that you can fit inside the jersey with a cut plastic bag taped to the surface. then i dabbed it on with a rag.  Dont hit any thread at all or else itll bleed. Dont use too much or the glue while disintegrate into a white paste thatll never come out.

Once you dab, reach inside and try to peel the crest.

The chemicals will leave a light cloud on the jerseys, this will come out if you hit it with a steamer and wash.  MAKE SURE YOU WASH before you steam

Dont use this on lights, itll leave a dark cloud that wont come out.

For a fresh example, here's a jersey I stripped today.

Overall crest came off pretty cleanly, but the perimeter was stuck pretty good so there was a lot of pills/pulling along with a handful of glue marks

Went over any glue marks with acetone, then flattened the jersey and went over the perimeter with a fabric shaver. After that I pressed it with an iron. This is the result:

Next I'll throw it in the wash, then the dryer for maybe 5 minutes and press it again. Chances are there will still be a faint outline of the crest somewhere, but for the most part it will be unnoticeable. I plan on using this jersey for pickup hockey so even as-is I'm satisfied.

To go into more detail on how I apply acetone, I put a towel on the inside of the jersey, splash one swig of acetone on the specific glue mark I'm working on, use a toothbrush to work in the acetone around the glue mark and the fabric (to prevent staining). The glue mark may rub off using the toothbrush or I may need to pick at it with my fingernail. But that's all there is to it. It takes a while so don't think you're going to finish the whole crest in 5 minutes, but work on it section by section and you'll get there.

Im going to give that a run and see what happens. I think i have just been trying with the wrong tools.

Unfortunately, no, it's a 56. My black and white 3.0's are 54 and I prefer that size. 56 is just a little longer in the torso than I'd like.

capitals definitely have not faired well for removal, i ended up screwing up the jersey pretty good. It's hard to find ones that are, just be ready to dump oodles of money and time.

I had a leafs forest green 3.0 from way back. if you're looking for that color those actually came off clean as a whistle. it was the only leafs jersey i've every see that was removable.
