HERZOGENAURACH, Germany — Adidas says it's putting the CCM Hockey brand up for sale.

The German sports equipment and apparel giant made the announcement Wednesday as it reported its fourth-quarter and year-end results for 2016.

The company reported a 14.3 per cent decline in net sales for CCM Hockey last year compared to 2015, and a bigger drop of 21.6 per cent in the fourth quarter compared to the same period a year earlier.

Now headquartered in Montreal, CCM Hockey can trace its roots to its founding in September 1899 in Weston, Ont., as Canada Cycle & Motor Co. Ltd.

A veritable who's who of the NHL have geared up with CCM Hockey equipment, including Darryl Sittler, Mark Messier and Sidney Crosby.

In 2004, CCM Hockey was bought by Reebok, which was acquired by Adidas two years later.

Ya I read that as well. I hate this to. Just when CCM has been making some great stuff and starting to take off in popularity again this has to happen. Could end up being a positive thing though if purchased by the right person or company.

I'm amazed CCM posted a drop off like that. It seems like everyone and their brother in the NHL is using CCM these days, not to mention AHL/OHL. I've been loving their stuff lately, and my go to set up has been Pens HP70s, HG12s, and I just grabbed a super tacks and ribcor trigger. Awesome stuff, so I hope they don't fall off.

I wouldn't get too upset, apparently this is the 7th time they've tried to find a buyer for CCM since they acquired them.

Adidas has also been trying to unload TaylorMade for years.

This is just them making it official, it was never made public in the past.

Im anxious to see if someone will scoop them up.,
