Sticks are part of the shooting mechanics, before, Kovalchuk and Vrbata (and quite a few other I'm sure) were one of the few players using a toe curve, and Kessel one of the few using a very whippy stick, now, it has now almost become mainstream to use both.

I don't see the problem with being curious about stick and their technology, and if I don't have the same equipment setup, it's harder to try and replicate the shooting mechanics.

Same goes for skate blade angle, profile and hollow.

I concur and dont see why it is irritating to some..we all know that we can't be pro and that doing a few more push ups and working out more probably could help you more than buying a pair of lighter skates or stick. And taking it further, why do you want pro stock anyways?

Because in most cases sticks are cheaper, and there used to be a much larger selection of curves. Not because I thought I would shoot like Phil.

I would also add that you can find the best lie and curve combo that best suits your style and shot. I am not the best player in the world but finally found Kessel sticks to be the perfect curve /lie combo and it took me about 4 years to finally get one in my hands. I will never shoot like him but the appropriate stick has definitely helped me improve my shot. And I own 2 of them for less than it would have costed me for a high end retail model.

Price is the most obvious factor here- $299 for a stick at retail is a sick joke.

FWIW - Matthews used a Trigger last game. Better cancel those 1N orders if you want to rip it like Matthews!!!!!!!!

Brett Hull had been using a 60ish flex stick before Kessel was in diapers.

yea it's always funny when i see these threads.

1) Player X is turning it up and lighting up the league.

2) New thread on 2k about what stick and flex he's using.

Don't get me wrong from a marketing perspective it's awesome for bauer as the 1n is one of their best selling twigs, i know lotsa plugs who bought the twig just cause AM34 is on fire.

BUT using same spec won't make you shoot like him. Spending money at shooting school or with darryl belfry will, not a magical stick, this ain't harry potter.

Made me laugh that.

Best thing to do is get a load of different sticks and a bag of pucks and fucking shoot them. Then you will find your Elder Stick.

Trying a bunch of sticks is a good idea but if you don’t have good shooting mechanics that’s not good either. That’s equivalent to a beginner buying top end gear and not being able to use it properly.

There’s so many factors to a good shot, can you can load a stick properly, where you hold your hands on a stick, what part of the blade you shoot from, type of shot selection, how you move your hips into the shot, if you use one foot and step in, in stride or not, accuracy, where your feet are pointing and end up before and after different types of shots and many other factors.

Also spending a lot of time on ice helps too or shooting in your backyard off those shooter pads. I like to believe I have a pretty decent shot but the more time I spend on the ice the better it gets. Also you always find these little quirks here and there that may help. For instance switching hand positions on one timers as opposed to where you shoot wrist shots or which foot to shoot off of in different situations.
