Only guy who comes to mind is William Nylander. Any other examples? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. Kovalev is LH though!

Semin uses a super long stick. Zherdev...?

Yeah, I just threw him in there since you can get his curve in a RH clone through BASE now. Hah

I don't remember if Zherdev used a shorter stick or not.

Just based on the curve and the shooting mechanics it makes more sense to use the stick on the taller side than the shorter side. I.E eichel, semin, Klingberg, doughty, Karlson

Yeah I'll agree with you on that, but there has got to be a few guys out there that use a shorter stick. Tough for people like me to [consistently] get a lower lie at a lower flex, too.

Thanks for the replies everybody.

I believe Wayne Simmonds uses a kremlin, or at least a modified version of it. His pro stocks are listed at a 60" length.

David Clarkson also uses Kreps.

I've read elsewhere that it's better to use a shorter stick so you can get your hands farther out in front of you?

A longer stick would give you more torque as you bring the puck in towards your feet. I understand that's how you're supposed to shoot with this type of curve. Obviously you can make it work with a shorter stick, but it might not be optimal.

Watching William Nylander snipe with a short 75 flex makes me a believer though.

If you are strong, and press down on the blade as you load it up, then a short, whippy stick (as Nylander uses, and Ovie too was using short 82 flex for awhile/ not sure what he is up to these days) will work just fine to generate a quick release and a hard shot.

I am not pro, but at 6'2, 215 lbs, working out alot and in shape, I find too that a pretty short 75 flex stick, with a P30 curve, shoots fire. I have used longer/ higher flex, and sure I can shoot harder with the longer/ higher flex sticks, but I lose a lot of "stick agility," and it takes alot longer to load and release. So hard shots with slower release time < fast release with shots that are hard enough.

Are there using long sticks and getting better shot power? Sure- Datsyuk, Zucarello, and some other guys who I see with their top hand seemingly always around the level of their head, are doing amazing things. I guess if you have insanely adept hands, then you can do this too, but I have no such hands, so the short stick is the catapult of choice.

I think that a longer stick will always help velocity on shots because of the extra torque you can generate. The thing is stickhandling; moving through traffic, being able to maneuver where/when you want with the puck in order to get to that open area. I personally have a much more responsive time in the neutral zone with an average or shorter stick, then just adapt my shot from there

Edit: obviously datsyuk doughty and zucc have no problem getting around with a long twig, but for most people(depending on your skating and stickhandling style) unless you're using a super low lie, most of the blade is going to be off the ice with the toe cocked up giving you less blade to work with
