I got a pair of custom fitted True VH skates with their holder and Step steel. The first time on them, I noticed I was losing my outside edge when doing cross overs (edges are fine otherwise).  I'm not talking aggressive turns... it happens at slow speeds too.  I had them resharpened 4 times afterwards, at varying cuts at different shops but it's still happening.

The store and the rep can't figure out what's going on.  They think maybe repositioning the holders may help, but I'm not keen on drilling more holes.  I want to try Tuuk holders and new steel but I'd hate to buy them only to find out it's not that... the store won't goodwill them and I'm already out over $1100.

Any ideas or suggestions?

See if a friend can shoot video of you skating crossovers. Good thing it's happening at slow speeds, you can come close to the camera/phone. Shoot it in high speed so you can see what's happening frame by frame. That should be a good start.

Edit: I don't mean "good thing" in that it's good it's happening at all, but at least you can reproduce the issue at slow speeds so it'll be easier to capture on video.

Snap a few pics of what the holder, skate and steel look like.

Someone on a skate sharpening group on fb posted some issues they were having with the new vh holder and steel because they were reverse pitched. Might be the way your skates are/aren't profiled.

Can you LHS profile your steel? Sounds like you have gaps where the blade isn't touching the ice. Could be why you feel like you are losing your edge even though the edges are stil good on the steel.

I had this exact problem on mine.  Switched to LS Edge holders w/ Step runners and they feel amazing.

Did you go from Step/VH holders back to LS?

Did you try profiling?  Step are 10 or 11 (mine were close to 11) radius, where Tuuk is closer to 9.

I also noticed it was harder to cross over at first on mine but after a few days they felt much better. They are a lot more forward pitched then I was used to on my old Bauer supremes.

Did you go from Step/VH holders back to LS?

I have two pairs: one that I custom ordered with the VH holders / Step runners, and one pro stock pair that came with LS holders.  After a few skates alternating between the two, I realized that the LS holders had a much more favorable pitch and that I wasn't going to get used to the pitch of the VH holders.  So, I swapped out the VH holders for another LS holder and slapped some Step runners on both pairs.

Do you find the Tuuks are less stiff? I got mine profiled with quads but I haven't changed the pitch. Coming from MLX with LS2.

Less stiff compared to the VH holders?  I think so, yeah.

Do the VH holes line up with the Tuuk LS?

Almost, but not exactly.
