I've seen it briefly touched on in other topics but does anyone know what the is purpose of the back horizontal strip of tape and white tape on the toe? I assume to have the look of the minimal tape job, but the feel of the full length but I would love to hear if anyone has anyone other insights.

Pretty certain you hit it right on the head. Also some guys like the feel of no tape on the bottom of the blade. Obviously just the heel in this case
