I just bought some Step Black Steel for Bauer edge holders after hearing how great they are but when I took them out of the packaging I noticed they are the XL ones. Didn’t see any other ones at the store so I wasn’t aware there was a difference. Does the XL mean they are taller or that they have a longer radius/profile? And is there non-XL ones or is that just part of the name because they have taller Steel. I’m just looking for the black edge Steel that majority of people have recommended so if there’s a non-XL version I guess I should take them back and get those. Im new to step and have only used LS2/3/4.

"XL Size – ( like LS2.1 ) 2mm Longer Each end for maximum contact with ice."

""XL": extra-long steel. There is more material on the steel, mostly at the toes."

Can anyone comment on which one is better/preferred type?

Honestly won't make a huge difference.  The 2.1/XL is also a 9' profile, LS3&4 is 10'

If your bag has wheels, you don't.

I was told the Blacksteel for the Edge holder was a combo 9/10 profile. It definitely feels like a longer profile than my LS2's that I replaced it with.

I buy the XL version, I find the extra toe in particular to be useful. Similar idea to putting a one size larger holder on a boot, as preferred by some. Opposite of grinding down the toe and heel, as preferred by some.
