Just got a  pair of 1x skates that have Clear plastic shot blockers glued on . Looks like epoxy or something similar. Any tips on how to remove these without messing up the skates outer layers / graphics? I attempted to lift one of the edges with a screwdriver and it started to lift the skates  paint/graphics with it.

any help is much appreciated.

Maybe a hairdryer or heat gun to melt the glue? Though if it’s anything like the epoxy used in my lab, it’ll likely never come off.

Custom everything.

Dry ice might work.

The graphics on the 1X are so cheap and flaky as is I would say there's about a 0% chance you get that off without ruining the entire skate graphic

Thanks for the replies was hoping for a easy fix. But def don’t want to ruin the boots. I’m ok if it took some of the graphics off as long as it won’t hurt the actual boot

Would like a goof off / goo gone be worth a shot?

Just curious... why do you want to remove them?

Just to get the extra weight off. They feel heavier than my old Apx skates

I'm probably one of the last people on here that should be saying this, but are you really going to feel that much of a difference?

Custom everything.

Hard to tell exactly tell by your pictures but I got a pair of 1s skates with similar setup but there were bigger and the laces actually went through them also, there should be pics in my gallery. Anyway they do heat up and come off you biggest problem is the crappy laminated graphics on the 1x skates, try inboxing cthockey as I know they remove them of a lot of pro stock skates and also were selling them at one point, in the mean time I’ll get instructions from an eqm and inbox you

You could also cut/break the blockers material which is lexan to lighten the load

Most of those blockers are held on with double sided tape not epoxy. You can either heat them up with a heat gun, blow dryer, or bring them to your LHS and put them in the oven.

All of our skates from the NYR's have these and they all easily come off once a little heat is applied. Sometimes there is some residue from the tape left over that we either peel off by hand or use goo gone.

Ended up taking the chance of removing them. Worked out great. Almost no graphics came off. Just used a heat gun.
