So... In a tourney this weekend that is a yearly thing. It's very competitive, and some really good teams. Had a guy that was beyond liberal with his stick. Two handed a hand full of guys and even hit two of my players in the helmet/face area (they were not cut or any major damage but made contact with their helmet and mind you no visor or cage). So I head into the zone and go for a back hand, and get a two hand to my lower hand and its bad. I chop said guy in the back of the calf, and pretty bad I might add...like collapses and can't even stand on it. I've played a high level of hockey in my life, but in this day and age not a normally chippy player. I genuinely feel bad about it still. Was I over the top?

Exactly what I was going to write.

Did he come back in the game?

He did not, there wasn't much time left in the 3rd. He was skating again this morning so he isn't injured. Thanks for the reassurance on this.

Sounds like he had it coming to him.

The only thing I may have done differently was maybe say something to him about his style of play in the game, maybe let him know he was over the top, and if he reacts in a negative fashion, then yes, next shift out he’s going to get a little love....in my younger days, for sure, I would have done exactly what you did, it now that I’m older, I seem to want to give people the benefit of the doubt and a chance to apologize or show some remorse before I tune them up....lol.

He was talked to a couple of times prior to taking lumber to the leg

I laid out a semi-celebrity in pickup after he didn't heed the warnings about his hacking and slashing. I also laid out a guy in a coed tournament after he shoved a woman to the ice after a whistle. On the second one the ref said he didn't want to give me a penalty but had to... two shifts later the other guy got a 5 and 10 for his reckless play.

I am usually relaxed, but if your play warrants a message, then a message will be sent. Some guys just don't get it.

Are refs not calling slashing penalties on this guy? Why not just tell the stripes to watch for it first?

Outside of an obvious trip or hook on a breakaway, nothing is being called. Makes for a pretty interesting weekend...

Don't mind some rough play , as long as it's Clean. But none of the 1976 federal league Johnstown Jets B.S. We have to go to work the next day.

It was a charity hockey tournament. Tried to keep it clean as long as we could.

My buddy is a pastor at a christian church, they play in an annual christian hockey tournament, he says it's the most dirty hockey they've played in their lives. Go figure

I used to ref in the local Christian Hockey League, and it was insane, they would stand around the centre circle and pray before the game, then proceed to play the hardest, cheapest, dirtiest brand of hockey I had ever seen. I loved it though!!!!

I used to do drop in with a group out at excellent ice in Surrey.
Since I was new I was introduced and then they said “Jordan would lead the prayer” for about 5 seconds I panicked and had no idea what to do.

Thankfully one of the goalies was also named Jordan and started the prayer.
