Has anyone come across a pair of pro stock Bauer gloves with a locked thumb instead of the normal flexible thumb? Is this a common modification by players? Any way to change a locked thumb to flexible?

Ask Custom pro Repair. If anyone can do it , it would be them.

Yes, depends on player and yes (you'll need to buy a pair of gloves that have flex thumbs, remove the plastics, then send to CPR). Price will vary depending on whether or not it comes with spandex underneath top thumb fold.

Gotcha, thanks. The thumb appears to have the same construction as a flexible thumb, it's just stiff. Wasn't sure if there was a piece of plastic that could easily be broken/removed to restore flexibility back to the thumb. I'm sending another pair of gloves to CPR so may ask them about this too.

Here's what I've done with a few pairs;

Pretty easy to pop the stitching to expose the plastic, tie off ends, cut plastic with a hacksaw, then trim excess fabric and throw a couple stitches to give it a clean look. Only downfall to removing the lock is potential of hyperextending the thumb.

I prefer short thumbs versus flex. CPR can do short thumbs (thumb without lock extension/what's pictured). Pat has done that on my last couple pair. Hope that helps.

Still not exactly sure what I'm looking at on the first picture. Is that the plastic piece which keeps the thumb locked? What's the difference between a normal flexible thumb and a short thumb?

That is the piece that extends underneath the cuff roll. I untucked it in order to take the photo.
