So I'm playing mens league and my old jofa rostock elbows the bicep guard is ripping and hanging by a thread on both. So I just ripped them off and tried it out and it was great improved range and still felt I was protected. Do I really need the top part for mens league seams like it's protection for slashes and cross checks to the upper arm which I dont really get. I also have seen some 24:7 episodes with pros who have done the same thing. Thanks

Been doing that for about 4 years now, you really have to be unlucky to get hit at the sweet spot but it's a risk, like playing with a visor...

I went my whole career before college wearing cooper soft elbow donut pads with no issues playing full contact. I felt those pads did nothing when you hit the ice.
