Looking to pick up a new pair of skates and go down 1/2 a size. That would result in a different runner (272 vs 280). I'm wondering what kind of experience any of you may have going down in size and what kind of impact it'll have or how different it may feel? I plan on keeping the same radius/hollow so just the size of the actual steel will change.

Alternatively, how different are the holes from 272 to 280? I could always swap the holders, but am hesitant to fill and drill new holes on a brand new skate. I do know 280 would fit the skate no problem since the EE version of the smaller size uses 280 holders.

Thanks!

So you won't be able to re-use that many holes, because the alignment of the blade would be off if. E.g. you anchored the rear tower of a larger holder at the same position as the smaller holder, the toe would come forward way more while the heel stays the same. You can see a discussion on such a botched job here over at MSH.

I personally would recommend just trying 272, and your mind/body will adjust within a few skates as long as you don't switch between sizes each week (e.g. keeping the old ones for games, using the new ones for practice). If it doesn't, try having a pro-shop profile your blade. If that doesn't, you can always go back to an oversized holder, but make sure they align it properly.

Thanks for the link.

Yeah, I'll definitely give the smaller holders a go for a few weeks, just wanted to see if anyone else has gone down in size and what their impressions have been.
