I am currently in a 9k and have been for almost 10 years. My current 9k has served me well, but the repairs are starting to add up. I will be needing a new girdle soon and am between picking up a Super Tacks, or picking up a new 9k. These are the only two I will buy, so I'll put that out there too. Is the Super Tacks really worth it? Is it truly an "Updated 9k"? I've read a bunch but still looking for any input anyone has before I pull trigger. Good, bad, or indifferent. Thanks in advance.

I'm skating with mine tomorrow and will provide you with some feedback!

SuperTacks if definitely an evolution of the 9k. Less bulk and what seems like the same amount of protection.

I have both and keep flip flopping.  My 9K is so worn in and comfortable but the Tacks does offer more protection on the hip and spine (I took 2 hard falls on the hip/top thigh in the 9K that left me with some bad bruising for a while which made me aware of the lack of padding compared to the Tacks... oddly enough I never fell on that spot that I remember in about 30 yrs of playing).  So my observations... Tacks offers more protection but feels like it fits slightly smaller (this could also be that the 9K is so worn in while the Tacks still has to break in/break down some).  Tacks is also more adjustable with 2 spots to adjust the thigh pads and the spine protector being height adjustable.  I must say, my biggest complaint about the Tacks girdle is the lack of sock velcro tabs like the 9K has, those were great, but since the Tacks doesn't have that I have to use a garter belt, not a big deal but something to note.

If you really love the 9K I have seen a store selling new CCM branded 9K's, it was posted on MSH in the past few weeks, so that's always an option.

These CCM branded ones look nice! I may grab a set just because. I went ahead and got the Super Tacks. Seems to be just as protective as my 9k, but holy crap is this thing light. The adjustability is amazing and it fits great. We will see how it holds up over the years. Thanks for the help, and a big thanks to GoldenGateHockey as well for reaching out with fit and sizing help. The XL Super Tacks fits like a large 9k and takes medium and large shells just fine. Now to sew some sock tabs and tabs to hold the 9k shells.

Enjoy my friend! I love mine and agree that they do run a size small. My large Super Tacks is nearly identical (maybe even a bit smaller) than the medium 9k I used to own.

I've been considering trading my 9k for the super tacks.  Is it really a significant weight difference between the two?   Also....I prefer to put on my skates before my girdle, but I don't with the 9k because I'm afraid of ripping the lining.  Does the Super Tacks have the same thin lining?

There is definitely a weight difference and the Super Tacks seems to be more streamlined. My LG 9k is 1645 grams and My XL Super Tacks is 1392 grams. I'm still in the break-in process for mine, but so far I like it a lot. I will say be careful of the sizing as it's not the same as the 9k. I had to go to an XL in the Super Tacks and also had to modify the velcro attachments for the thigh pads because they were too long (where it connects to the upper girdle). I'm 6'0" 220lbs with a 34" waist for reference. Also, the wrapping straps aren't as long on the thigh pads on the Super Tacks. I have a large lower body and dont have much room to secure the thigh pads (velcro on the lower thigh pad). And yes, it does have the thin lining in it, but not quite the diaper the 9k had. There have been many who have cut that part out of the Super Tacks and made it a full wrap around.
