In need of profile advice/help for STEP black steel

Looking for some profile advice. I have custom 1S skates (my own customs). I’m running 280 holders with LS4 steel. Stock profile currently, I have heel lifts but my skating isn’t as efficient as it could me. I ordered a set of STEP Black steel which I’ve used before but the set I used had a quad zero profile. I liked that a lot BUT it caused me some knee problems in my left knee (meniscus tear surgery a decade ago) so I switched back to stock steel with no profile. Quad zero was too extreme but I’m looking for advice on a more conservative profile for me as a winger. Thanks in advance!

IMO the Quads and Zups have that aggressive 6' forward pitch in the front. What about trying the old double radius? Maybe a 9/10'?

I wonder if it would work out better for me if I removed the heel lifts. I only put them in because I felt like I was on my heels but with the proper radius maybe I am changing how the skate behaves too much with the heel lifts installed. I tried no icing sports combo radius of 8/13 but that was a long time ago and in a different state but maybe 910 is the better option.

Pretty sure you’re in Mass, go see Wayne at Zwickers (ideally early in the AM on weekday so it’s not busy & you can explain your set up).
CTHockey is right the pro sharps do have an aggressive pitch that isn’t for everyone. A 9/10 or even a 9/11 double radius would probably be ideal for you and you won’t have to mess with the heel lifts.

I’m in NH but I do order my customs through Zwickers, just a haul to get there from where I am but TSR is in salem. Not sure I trust them more than Zwickers for profile but at the very least I think I could take out the lifts. It’s a Supreme boot, I’ve just felt flat footed at times. I was in quad zero WITH lifts for the heroes cup tournament and 5 games in my left knee wanted to kill me. I’m thinking most likely because it was too much forward pitch between the two. My buddy plays pro, a d man and he’s been in 9/10 at 5/8ths for a decade.

I would definitely try to take the heel lifts out and see if that helps. Those are giving you a agressive lean forward so any custom radius applied to your steel is going to make them feel more aggressive then they were intended to. We can do the profile through the mail on our Prosharp if you have any problems finding someone local.

Spoke to Zwickers for a bit since I’ve done my last to pairs through them. They told me to leave the lifts in and said that those probably weren’t causing me issues. They mentioned that step steel typically has a straighter edge than Bauer steel which is more rounded so step feels like it bites harder. I went with 3/4ths instead of 5/8ths for the hollow and had them do a 9/10 on them. I’m going to go back to lacing all the way up instead of dropping the top eyelet to see how this works out.
