Currently wearing a 3rd revision of Supreme skates. Started with MX3 x2 and now 1S. Each time I tweaked them but always wanted to be in the Vapor line however my instep is pretty intense. Was wondering if the newest Vapor skate was worth looking into for a custom order or if I should just stick with what I’ve been using. Before these 1S skates I was in x90 and had worn retail x100s and loved how quick my feet were in the boot but the shallow boot gave me lace bite like there’s no tomorrow.

Current spec:

1S
Regular eyelets
8.25 E/B L
8.0 EE/B R
+1 quarter and facing
280 Edge
Bobby Clarke tongue shortened length and width
2 stiffness

I have a really wide foot with a deep instep and have trouble finding a retail skate that fits well. I wear a pair of old classic ones pro stock skate. Vapor has always been too narrow, and nexus and supreme just never felt comfortable to me, too ski boot like. I tried the new 2x pro on and other than needing to increase the volume in the eyelets to accommodate my high volume, they fit great. Love the new slim toecap. I'll be placing my order for customs this week with increased depth in the eyelets (traditional eyelets) and stiff tendon guard. Normal EE fit great because they relaxed the sides more than previous models. Having said that, the new model sonic skate coming out is supposed to be right up my alley for my foot. Unfortunately, I cant wait as my skates ate too broken down.

Vapor skates for me fit perfectly other than the pencil test fail/shallow boot but I’ve had to mess with a lot in my 1S to make myself not feel flat footed (heel lifts/profiling etc). Hate the look of the 2X but I would have loved to get into a Vapor skate just didn’t want to mess with Tech Mesh Nexus 7000 expecting them to break down faster. I’ve been in my 1S for 3 years now.

If you’re a a Supreme EE/B or E/B width in your sizes I hate to break it to you chief but you aren’t fitting into a pair of Vapors, custom or retail.

Supreme or Nexus will be your best bet.

Width was never my issue with Vapor it was the quarters/facing/boot depth. The reason I went with the supreme line was so that I could run +1 instead of +2 in Vapor. You are probably right about the supreme line but nexus… Forget it that boot depth is like a bottomless pit. Is the ultrasonic that much different? Or is it just a new liner and some other minor tweaks?

There seems to be some confusion about how custom skates are built so I will try to clarify some of the points that you mention.

Width and depth are not mutually exclusive with skates which many people seem to assume. Quarter/facing are limited by the last and the size of people’s fit altogether.

If they are building a custom Nexus last to your foot, again volume can accounted for. They can reduce facing depth, they can’t extend it beyond what’s available hence Nexus being an option but Vapor won’t.

I’d suggest talking to someone in person about it, as I’m somewhat unfamiliar with newer Bauer offerings (2019-2020) as my career has transitioned to a different part of the industry.

Basically don’t listen to retail marketing buzzwords if you’re going custom as it’s all irrelevant, though they have limitations especially in terms of generalities.

I’m familiar with how it works as I did my own fitting for the last two pairs. The first pair was the baseline however the second pair I worked with a local NCAA rep who was not much help at all so I made my own adjustments. Just wanted a second opinion to see if I would be trying to put a square peg in the triangle spot attempting a vapor boots fit

For lack of a better term and from my experiences I would say that it would be a challenge, yes.

I dont know, the 2x/2x pro are more relaxed on the sides than previous models. I tried them on early this week and was shocked how good they felt width wise. I've never fit into a vapor without instant pain. Had no pain at all on these. At the very least, try on a pair and see how they feel.

I am not sure if I read this correctly. You can reduce the facing of a Bauer skate but you can not increase the facing(or add depth)

Is that correct

Incorrect

You can mess with eyelet cut backs and eyelet counts but you INCREASE facing and quarters. For example my pair is +1, my left skate is 8.25 E/B and my quarters and facing are 9.25.

This would add more depth in the skate, correct?

That is exactly what I need and want, but I asked the guys at my LHS and they told me I could not do that. I guess I have to find some one that knows better. I know I can do it with CCM.

That’s what happens when you talk to people who think they know what they’re talking about but don’t. I knew more than the BC Bauer rep about what could or could not be done at custom for my order. I ended up with a $200 discount on my pair because they messed up the first order and gave me the wrong specs on the second because the rep said I could have X when I couldn’t have X without Y. It’s not fool proof, your customs skates are only as good as your fitter and they can go horribly wrong.

Has anyone seen recent Bauer pro stock skates that indicate whether they're Fit 1/2/3 in addition to the standard size/width marking under the footbeds? I'm wondering if there's a way to tell whether a pair of pro stock Hyperlites is actually a Fit 2, UltraSonic Fit 1, etc.

Most custom skates I've seen are still coming in D/E/EE widths. Haven't seen any FIT1/2/3 marking under the footbeds yet
