Came across this article from the Boston Globe discussing the world wide stick shortage due to the caronavirus causing manufacturing delays in China impacting Bauer, CCM and True sticks.

Bonny Sports, who makes Bauer sticks, is based in Taiwan not China, so it seems strange that Bauer can't make more sticks.  I'm not too well versed on how the political climate affects manufacturing regulations between those 2 countries.

Don't know where CCM and TRUE sticks are made, but probably in China.

Custom everything.

Last I’d heard, True made sticks out of a place in Guanzhou

Good Idea; Whistling while you work.

Few teams I deal with say the exact opposite. They're making the players use sticks till they break in practice. No more discarding whipped out sticks. Obviously for games they are allowed new sticks. Just being careful until they hear a date when the factories will reopen.

Safe to assume these are probably smaller schools/programs compared to the NHL teams which would make sense for why they are being cautious.

Damn, so I could have picked up sticks on the cheap when I was there last year?!

Two AHL teams both said they are making all players use sticks till they break. A few NHL teams I deal with try to keep 24-36 sticks in stock for all players at all times. Since they can't reorder sticks those supplies are dwindling. Most players use a new stick almost every game so you can see how fast the backup supplies would dwindle if that's the case.

So, by the time playoffs come around, teams may have HUGE stick stock issues.

The NHL equipment guy that I spoke to told me that this was a non issue at the NHL level. More so the companies hoping to get guys in new models before playoffs so that timeline skewed somewhat.

Again, I’m sure smaller organizations and teams that order multiple smaller batches will feel it a bit more, but at the NHL level, a couple guys might run out of ADV’s that’s about it.

“I’m concerned about a shortage,” Seguin said, adding that he goes through one stick each game. “I might be screwed for a little bit.”

They don't outsource; they own the factory.  It is commonplace for a company to have headquarters in one country and factories in many others.
