I am though if COVID keeps going through my league like it is now, maybe not. we've reached the "denial" period now. some people in my league are even talking about, "there's a another disease going around that's kind of like pneumonia or a bad cold but it's not COVID so we can keep playing." DUDE! it's COVID! you don't get pneumonia &/or bad colds in ATL in July!
got into an argument with one guy after FOUR guys on the same team started "feeling sick" a few days after a game that ended up being a forfeit. he's not on the team but was allowed to skate because he's a Board member. the guys are sitting out their next game and getting tested but he told me that "feeling sick" and COVID weren't the same thing because he was there and feels fine. I pointed out to him that he could be asymptomatic and spreading it to other people without knowing it.
I feel right now that those who have decided the risk is worth it to play are now terrified that somehow our league will be shut down again so know they're deluding themselves.

btw, yesterday my state had almost 5000 NEW cases. in one day.

Sigh. Exactly why I didn't sign our waiver. I knew there would be those who simply couldn't be trusted to do the right thing in order to protect others they come in contact with. Grr.

I hear ya. I signed but haven't been playing, as you know. clearly the right choice on your part since the "it's something else going around" comment came from one of your teammates.  :censored:

In Michigan for reference. Skated last night for the first time since the shutdown, almost 3 months. Masks in lobby and own water bottle, that was it. 5v5, full bench, and showers after. Pretty much like it was before.

God, I'm jealous. We're in Ann Arbor and we just got news that our Summer league is officially cancelled. Some teammates talked about renting ice, but nothing's came of it, yet. I haven't heard a peep about gyms/rinks opening up since they struck down the reopening a couple weeks back.

Good lord do I feel bad for you guys and what's going on down there. Some people are just the worst. Absolutely no consideration for anyone but themselves.

I've skated in Traverse City and my home rink outside of Flint. Both pretty much the same protocol. Tournament in Traverse next month is still a go and sounds like league play at the home rink will go as planned.

They've announced our men's league is about to get back going, but we're all going to have to wear masks - even on the ice.

Has anyone else had to skate with masks? The suggested we use these, but of course they're not available. Anyone else use something that worked well with helmets & cages?

I did a skate back in June with a gaiter. it didn't work well at all. it wasn't that I thought it was hot but it kept falling down. I switched to one of these but haven't tried it out yet:

Aren't gaiter/kerchief-style masks widely understood to be the worst type of mask, and in fact even worse than wearing no mask at all?

I think regular masks are better but among non N95 face coverings I don't see how gaiters are worse unless it's just a question of how porous some of them are.

they semi-retracted here: https://www.washingt...2392_story.html

certainly the safest option is to wait for a vaccine and everyone must make the best decision for themselves and their household.

First time back tonight in almost a month. Have a regular skate a couple times a week, outside of league with guys I know. I got Covid at work on a Tuesday, and unfortunately passed it that Wednesday without knowing. Five or so guys got it at the skate. Everyone is doing good and all were back skating. Only sign for me was no taste and smell for over a week, some body aches, and feeling completely run down, which started the Sunday after the skate. I will say I definitely took for granted what things taste like. That week plus was brutal. My wife and three kids had nothing, which still boggles my mind. Quarantined the whole time with them. Just a weird deal overall, and definitely gave me a different perspective on everything.

one of my friends who had COVID said that everything tasted like bland oatmeal.

as for your family, they might just have stronger immune systems. did they get tested to see if they were asymptomatic?

we've had a few cases like this in my league too which is why I tell everyone, if you go to play, just accept that contracting COVID is a possibility and weigh the risks for you and your family to determine if it's worth it.

glad to hear you're doing better and it wasn't more serious.  :headbang:

Thanks, I appreciate it. Yeah, wife and kids got tested twice. All negative. We made sure to space the tests out just to be sure too.

First game is in the books. Felt so good to skate after 6 months plus without skating.

- 5 vs 5

- 3 guys on the bench

- 6 guys max per rooms

- no showers

- Can get dressed at the rink 20 minutes before and leave 20 minutes after

Overall, it was a great experience, looking forward to next week!

Has for my part, I stop and won't return. We played with one infected guy while he didn't know. And them boom; 13 guys has tested positive on 18. I'm still waiting for my result after 3 days. If you want to play that's cool, but just be aware that it's very contagious and you don't know how your body will be affected. And also think about your family too.
