I have custom 1S skates sized:
8.25 EE/B left
8.00 E/B right
280mm Holders
The rest of the specs don’t matter but this is a 3rd pair I’ve had made and wanted to go 272 holders on the pair but the rep said I couldn’t with the width even though Bauer retail at this size is a 272. Is this true or should I just stick with 280?

Usually wider skates go up a holder size, so an 8D would use 272, but an 8EE would use 280s. Part of the reason for this is that a wider skate also gets an extra 3 or so mm in length from my experience, so they're longer than a D in the same size.
You could always have them profile. Won't be exactly the same, but depending on what you're looking to gain from the shorter holders you may find a profile that works for you

I’m going with 272s, ditching the 280s.
Yeah, you'll be fine with 272s. Sorry, didn't understand what you were trying to say. I was just trying to explain that Bauer uses longer holders for wider skates on the same size. 272 shouldn't be an issue though, not sure why they're giving you a hard time about it on customs.
