Ok, so I get cutting the thumb loops on a glove lets you feel the stick better but doesn't it allow you to feel others sticks in a bad way just the same?

You should never feel others sticks in a bad way.

It could. That's the risk that you run in cutting loops. The feel is great, and it's pretty rare to get a stick or puck in there, but if you do get one watch out cuz it could do some damage.
I stopped cutting loops a while ago, but if you're interested then you can have some material added there to extend the loop a bit. Either when you have them repalmed you can ask for extended loops or you can take them to a cobbler or pro repair shop and have them cut and splice in some leather or suede to lengthen the loop

I have no interest, it was a question purely out of curiosity

Worst thumb injury I ever received from a slash was on gloves with a lock thumb. Just saying... sometimes stuff happens. I stopped cutting them just for resale value.
