So our team was getting pretty beat up (on the scoreboard) tonight. The other team had at least a 5 goal lead up until the third period. One of their players rips a wrist shot and hits the crossbar. The puck ends up deflecting to the goalie's skates and he covers up. The refs initially called it a goal, but then our team were telling the refs that the puck did not go in. The two refs spoke amongst themselves and then called the goal no good. The one way I look at it, the refs lost sight of the puck, the puck did not cross the goal line and they may have initially based the goal on the puck ringing off the cross bar. I'm sure that some of the players from the other team were thinking that "what does it matter" since they were already up by 5. Our team felt it was the right call that the refs overturned the goal. I'd like to hear what your thoughts are on this.

Mistakes are made in many beer league games. I've personally have had 2 goals that were not called in our last 5 games. One went in and out while the other was gloved 6" over the goal line and pulled back out. Life goes on. In the big picture yeah we want to win every game but we're there to have fun as our first priority. My biggest bitch was the no-call when I was cross-checked in January 2010 and the result was a broken left fibula.

I think the refs did the right thing by discussing what happened. If one of them didnt see the puck cross the line, then it should not count which sounds like thats what happens.

Thanks guys for all of your input on last nights' scenario. I feel that the refs actually did the right thing and reversing the call. I did feel a little bad though for a couple of reasons. For one, since our league plays with a running clock, the whole ordeal took at least 2 minutes off the clock. I also feel bad for the guy that thought he had a goal (could have been his first ever) and then getting it disallowed. Thanks again for all the replies.

That is the right call. I think they should have stopped the clock during the discussion though.

Yes stop the clock because we don't get paid and pay for every min! We use a two man ref system in our league games. Playoffs and tourney get 3. It's a hit or miss best judgement thing. If your getting killed ppl won't care bout a miscalled goal. On the other hand last game we were down by one pulled goalie 1 min left I charged the net for loose puck and their dman hit the net off on purpose . No call and time ran. Not a playoff or Stanley cup game but I come to compete! Pretty pissed bout that.

I can't stand running clock, I don't care what side of it I'm on. I think it's bullshit.
