Look, i get it from the stance of a fan boy because he was a favorite player of mine growing up, but come on. The magic word is "Was" and "If"
When you throw those in you're not going to be ripping it up anymore. If you ever were.
He's retiring from two leagues that dont want him to play for a league that probably wont want him either. I think the only few Hard working russians i've seen have been Kovalchuk, Datsyuk and ........it trails off in my memory. and Datsyuk in the same sentence as Kovy is kind of an insult to his work ethic.

The Brett Favre of hockey, haha gotta love it eh ? Favre actually still had a bit of mojo near the "FINAL" end of his career, sadly AK doesn't anymore. He should really just hang em up but I imagine it's probably the hardest thing to do for any athlete at the end of their career. When your older, got no more wheels and your rolling in cash, I imagine just being able to still play somewhere is a good thing. Shit, I can't imagine when i can't play ANY hockey anymore so guys like him must take it pretty hard for quite a long time when they actually do have to give it up for good. I guess there is always Beer League for them all though but..........
On the plus side to it ?? I don't imagine him hurting ticket sales to games though. Even if he won't be lighting it up anymore, just his presence will draw the fans out to see him. For all I know it's probably a big reason they are letting him play I could be way off on that though as I'm pretty naive and ignorant when it comes to European hockey leagues. For all I know they're already sell out every game.

Brett's right, but no matter what you do, in hockey, whatever high level you play, you ALWAYS ALWAYS end up in beer league. This is why i mock dumbass kids on phew who will talk all the crap they want all day long saying they'll make pro when we clearly know they'll wash out because nobody wants their shit attitude and will end up in beer league. I've seen lots of pros playing in tournaments for beer league, you can't fool me I'M THE MUFFIN MAN!!!
also the Daniel Tosh thing, thats where i got my Favre reference :-P

Ouch.
On the 2014 Sochi Olympics: “Even if I was offered a role (to promote the Games), I wouldn’t take it. At this point, I want nothing to do with Russian hockey. There are a lot of people who come to the hockey world in Russia who don’t have any idea. It’s all family relationships: ‘I got this job, I can get you a job on this team, too,’ and that person doesn’t know anything about hockey. It’s pretty much if you get hurt in the KHL, you get traded or bought out. You expect that. They’re not developing players or teams, they’re running a business.”
