I own apx's and as I was taking my skates off of my boot dryer I noticed something funny. I thought I had hit somebody's skate and dented the blade. Nope worse, the blade was cracked all along the stainless part and stopped at the aluminum part in the fusion blades.

I was talking to a big hockey retailer here in Canada and they told me that they get these fusion blades back on return so much. Something about the aluminum with the stainless that doesn't make them as strong. I was debating get ls2 blades for the holder, but I saw Bakerboy with some step steel ones for sale on the other forum sections and for great price too.

Looks like I'm gonna give these a shot. Bakerboy says he swears by them.

What are your impressions of step steel. I've never used them. Also have you guys had problems with the fusion blades? Anything else u recommended for the future to try in blades.

Stepsteel or black edge are the way to go from everything I have read.

As for the fusion steel - you don't see that shit in the pros. It's a retarded gimmick. The blades are what, 20g lighter or something? You know 20g is? It's a dash of sugar.

I'm skating on LS3 still.  They're available at the retail level this year.

Step steel takes a little getting used to but is far better than LS2.

Better quality steel + more steel so you're a bit higher up.

Ok ... Ive noticed the height of the blade , not a fan of it.
Will cause my stick to be too short. Adding an extension will then cause too much flex in my blade.

I found some old threads on here with all the info on steep and other blades.
Thanks

I broke a blade the other night and I just ordered a set of Step Steel to replace them for my graf's. I'll give my opinions (for what that's worth lol) after a couple of skates.

you can get a profile done. Theyll grind the blade down and perfect it to your height and weight, and playing style. Its only 20$, its actually a good investment

so i ended up gettin step steel, put them in my apx's and the first thing i noticed when i stepped on the ice was the height. I think the difference was about 5-7 mm or so from a normal blade but you definitely know it when you're on the ice.

I've used them for 3 sessions now. First day was pretty interesting cause it seemed to take a while to get used to them. Second day was a little better and my third session i felt a lot more confident on them. Gonna look into profiling them possibly.

With Step, is there any special sharpening process that must occur at the initial sharpening to get them into skating shape?   I heard the initial sharpening was critical to set these up.

The guy that did them at Pro Hockey Life in toronto did them in reasonable time. So either he's really good at what he does or he's really bad at it and didn't set them up properly.

also when you get these, you'll notice how much taller you feel on the ice, but i've noticed that they stay sharp longer than the bauer blades i had.
