I use a garter belt. I don't care for the velcro. I tried it once and they came unhooked, but my garter belt works every time.
I can't do the tape method. I've seen a lot of guys do it, but for me, it doesn't feel right. Most of the guys I talk to that use tape just don't want to spend the money on a garter belt.
