#389699 Recent Pick-ups

Posted by flip12 on 29 October 2024 - 02:27 PM in Pro Stock Hockey Gear

Was able to get an unbelievable deal on a pair of 9X4 so grabbed a pair, swapped in XS holders and superfeet, installed helicopter tape, and removed the inside graphics as well as the chrome ‘nuerofit+’ on the heel. Haven’t skated on them yet, but first bake they feel quite a bit snugger than my current Cats (could be the new toe cap?). While I haven’t been a fan of the TF or Cat stock tongues and have swapped them for the felt t-guard tongues, I am going to give these ones a shot. They seem nicer than the previous version.

Just removing the Neurofit stripe makes them look 10x better.

$150 is more money than I would ever want to spend on something like this but this is a really cool lot nonetheless, don’t think I’ve ever seen something like this for sale.

$15 per shaft that requires a little sawing seems like a good deal.

Like new (just need a little dusting) Bauer Vapor 8. Size 8 unfortunately for me. First bid in at $30.
https://www.ebay.com...tm/276762704724

Edit: not skate size 8, shoe size 8, so skate size 6-6.5. Read the tag too quickly this morning. It’s a 41 euro size.

#389918 Custom CCM XF PRO SKATES

Posted by flip12 on 07 December 2024 - 02:55 PM in Hockey Gear

There was too much wrap on standard 652s for a lot of people. It was like Fit 4 volume in the forefoot. A lot of pros in 652s had the forefoot reduced to deal with it, like Modano (not when he first switched to CCM but the rest of his career once he quickly got that mod), Niedermayer, Amonte, Gartner, etc. Mission and Bauer (at least for a few years) corrected this in their mid-late 90’s 652 copycats.

#389961 Matvei Michkov curve

Looks like Warrior P71.

Good views of it there, thanks for the images. They should have you do the photos for the website.

The more I see of it the more it looks like vanilla W71.

https://sidelineswap...curve-grip-x254

Edit: DK’s website also calls it P71 https://www.dkhockey...ew-kov-lx2-pro/

That’s confusing because (at least I thought) P71 was what many call the Warrior W10 Gionta? W10 and W71 have some similarities but are definitely not the same.

W10 was a lie 4 and had more toe than this. It was a weird curve to offer at retail IMO.

You’re right about all the W10 specs, and W71 is one of the higher lies I’ve ever seen at retail. It’s just that the rest of the market seemed to seize on W10 as P71. The explanation I’ve seen is it’s supposed to be a Malkin curve, but I’ve never seen evidence he used it.

#390014 Celebrini curve

Posted by flip12 on 29 December 2024 - 11:25 AM in Pro Stock Hockey Gear

Anyone insight on his curve mods? GeerGeekHockey posted him talking about switching to the Zegras on Instagram https://www.instagra...zRlODBiNWFlZA==, but it doesn't look like Zegras really and at the end he talks about flattening it out on the heel. From GettyImages it looks more like a P28 with Kovalchuk's pre-P28 loft. I haven't seen any of his sticks popping up for sale anywhere yet.

#390052 Celebrini curve

Posted by flip12 on 14 January 2025 - 02:06 AM in Pro Stock Hockey Gear

If the Zegras curve is a P28 with P92 blade shape, wouldn’t the zegras with a P28 toe shape just be a regular P28? :dunno:

That’s what I was thinking. From looking at more pictures of the P86, it looks like they actually mean it’s just the P92 with the P28 toe curve added and no sculpting of the toe. The heel curve on the P92 isn’t straighter than on the E6/P91, it’s actually more curved, so my only guess is what Celebrini means when he says he likes it straighter on the heel for stickhandling he could mean he likes it less lofted there? P92 takes a little bit longer to open up maybe, depending on the version.

I thought geppetto stated the new sticks would not be on the configurator which would be a major bummer.

I want to try the new low kick and hybrid, but I’d prefer different grip and possibly shaft shapes (not sure if that’s even possible with the updated low kick)

The shaft shape and kick profile difference continues to be a puzzling to me. The G63 for instance is odd. It's supposed to feel like G3, but when you go over to shaft shapes it only offers low or mid kick. From what I've read about G3, it's more like the variable flex or low-and-high kick. If you want a stick like that but only can order it in mid or low kick that seems to be missing one of its main characteristics. The same for Model E. If you order it in Square, which is supposed to be close to original Easton shaft specs, debatable, it only comes in mid kick. But Synergy was originally a low kick stick--T-Flex fused in the factor with a short tenon blade. Unless the idea is to replicate the performance of an UltraLite with a composite blade, it doesn't make any sense. Then there's the "Model E Kevlar" texture that has nothing in common with the bumpy Kevlar texture it's supposed to.

It's hard to deny the value offer of Praux's sticks, but for a stick nerd, the details don't add up.

I completely agree. Theres no "holding the flex better" from the G63's either, all of those PRO sticks whip out pretty rapidly in my experience. Not to mention a real G3 build is a fused stick as well, the G63 is from a one piece mold with the thin taper they don't really compare

Good points. I’d like your post if the button was there.

#390167 Replacement for the Bauer X:60 Skate

Posted by flip12 on 27 February 2025 - 10:24 AM in Hockey Gear

I’m only one data point, but 9.5D Vapors felt great and 9-Fit 1 is my preferred size from having tried Hyp2rlites on in a LHS. I scan at just over size 10 with below average foot volume. The current toe cap’s more anatomical shape helps me comfortably drop a half size, though I’d bet the 3 Fit System probably helps as well.

#390337 P86/Zegras/Hossa/Dahlin/etc. curves

Posted by flip12 on 30 April 2025 - 05:30 PM in Hockey Gear

Hossa is an entirely different curve from the P86. It’s mostly straight with an open toe curve. P86 is just a P28 with a P92 blade shape.

Is it the though? The views I’ve seen make it seem more like a P92 curve with an added toe curve inspired by the P28. Maybe they tone down the heel curve on the stock P92 a bit too. The P86 pictures I’ve seen don’t really look like the P28’s curve or loft.

Right, the actual Hossa pro curve is a thing of beauty. These new Bauer curves labelled "Hossa" seem different.

Hossa had a lot of curves over the years, many of them much more vanilla than the dental scrapers he is famous for.

#390341 P86/Zegras/Hossa/Dahlin/etc. curves

Hossa pro in all the variants I've seen in person have almost no rocker.

I’ve only seen the BC01 and Pro81. Maybe those have been adapted for the enthusiast consumer market, but both have significant rocker, like a P89 with a shaved toe and toe curve added. Photos from his first few seasons in the NHL show him using a pattern that looks close to a P89, so there might be some overlap to his famous patterns and that one.

Im guessing its your listing? If so would you mind posting a pic of the footbed? That would be cool to see.

It's not mine actually. I was keeping a close eye on it for a friend whose skates are falling apart. He just needs a Vapor in 9D.

I have the pic though, from messaging to get the actual sizing. I told the seller to add the size inscription photos to the listing but it doesn't seem like he wants to  :dunno:

I see he put them up on imspamming with the photos like I had suggested (at 1.3 x the price!). He's still calling them size 9 though. 1 out of 2.
