#387717 Easton mako 2 vs m8

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 29 October 2023 - 06:01 PM in Hockey Gear

They have the same fit and last. The Mako M8's are made with a different carbon material, so they're slightly heavier and a bit less stiff. They both have carbon midsoles, unlike the plastic midsoles of the M7. The Mako II's are a bit more comfortable, but I love both skates and use the M8's for pond hockey.  If you're a casual player/beer leaguer, you probably won't notice a big difference between the two.

#386954 True shift max / Speedblade XS holders

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 21 August 2023 - 12:33 PM in Hockey Gear

The profile of your steel will make all the difference. If you get the same profile that you've had on all your old runners, it'll be much easier to transition from your old holders to the True holders.

#386946 True shift max / Speedblade XS holders

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 20 August 2023 - 02:40 PM in Hockey Gear

New holes will have to be drilled. True holders are symmetrical whereas XS holders follow the same hole pattern as Lightspeed Edge holders.

#387456 Pittards Closed Permanently

I hope ITR is stocked up for awhile! Hopefully another leather company can produce something similar.

#386863 True Catalyst pro skates

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 12 August 2023 - 12:06 AM in Hockey Gear

I can't comment on the True holders since I bought a model with Lightspeed Edge holders, but I love my pair. I've done many holder swaps from the True holders to Edge and XS holders because people like to stick with what they know. As for the skates themselves: don't judge the fit of them out of the box because they need to be baked to fit properly. My toes were jammed against the toe boxes when I first tried them, but they now fit like a glove after a bake with the saran wrap method. They are much lighter than my previous models of Trues and are built better than the retail Catalyst 9's, which also fit me very well.

#387073 Shot blockers?

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 01 September 2023 - 03:23 PM in Hockey Gear

A few guys on MSH DIY’d their own with impressive results at a fraction of the price

Those AS3's are really well done. That might be something worth looking into for my shop in the future.

#386308 Powerfly on True SVH Customs

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 13 June 2023 - 11:40 PM in Hockey Gear

I'd recommend epoxy, especially on Trues with their thin midsoles. I've used this with good results: https://www.acehardw...rc=ds&gclsrc=ds

#386305 Powerfly on True SVH Customs

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 13 June 2023 - 09:59 PM in Hockey Gear

I can't speak for Powerfly holders, but had no issues mounting Lightspeed Edge holders on Sharks_Throwaway's SVH skates. https://www.instagra.../p/CnC8IvPyU1O/

Since the True holders are symmetrical while the Tuuks are not, some holes will not line up. I recommend epoxying those holes and re-drilling, as well as using thin plastic inserts under the insoles so the rivets can grab on properly.

#386434 CCM new girdle?

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 28 June 2023 - 08:41 PM in Hockey Gear

It looks to be for bandy, which is another ice skating sport that is popular in Sweden.

#387078 CCM "Pro Camp" Elbow Pads?

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 02 September 2023 - 10:23 AM in Pro Stock Hockey Gear

These look like AliBaba knockoffs of the U+ CL pads. I'd avoid them unless you're looking for something super cheap for pond hockey.

#388630 Sharks Teal pants + gloves

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 05 March 2024 - 08:44 PM in Gear wanted

I have a teal large Super Tacks X helmet and 14" CCM Tacks gloves.

#387094 What model Jofa shin guards are these?

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 03 September 2023 - 06:47 PM in Hockey Gear

Those look like an earlier iteration of the 5070/6070/7K Pros. Since they're brand new with tags and 14" is a very desirable size, list them at ~$250 and see if you can get any takers.
