My local privately run rink is opening a week from Monday:

Guidelines-

  • No contact drills
  • All players and patrons must wear a mask at all times while off the ice
  • No showering
  • All players must come to and leave the facility with all equipment on except skates
  • Team rooms with a normal occupancy of 25 now will be 10
  • Will have marked spaces 6ft apart allowing for proper social Distancing on locker room benches
  • Established protocol for increased cleaning and disinfectant spray mist.
  • Employees will have masks on at all times
  • Ice times are spaced out 30 minutes
  • Allowing for 15 minutes for previous skate to exit and 15 minutes to next skate to arrive .
  • Please do not arrive more then 15 minutes before your skate time .

I saw someone on Facebook say that their arena made wearing a mask mandatory ON the ice.  That is so incredibly unsafe and idiotic.

The day people have to start dressing at home is the day a lot of people will quit playing hockey. No chance.

Like Dishmaster said, your league/rink is either all in on letting players play the way the game is intended, or you should just stay closed. No point playing with 100 new rules.

our local rinks had small group travel tryouts last week and required kids to come dressed and then didn't allow parents in the building.

immediately our adult league (independent, NOT run by the rinks) started whining about why we couldn't restart the league. I told several of them, I'm not driving 30 minutes EACH WAY in full gear in late Spring/early Summer Georgia heat.

No, Amelia.

Oh yeah. Always forget about that one. Olympia is a lot closer to me so I never skate at Amelia unless it’s the Kevin Major tourney.

I'm with you guys: too many rules and too much hassle. Marsblades/outdoor pickup and lots of shooting at home until the rinks are open for good.

"What is your lowest/best price?" is NOT an offer.

I heard this is just for the clinics.

our league just announced that we're restarting June 22nd. not sure yet what precautions the rinks will require. all players have to sign a waiver in order to be able to play though. you don't sign, you don't play and it's highly unlikely there will be any refunds. we have about 8 games left in our season.

last night I played for the first time since mid-March. one of our rinks put together a shinny for our league's Board of Directors.
the rink required a face mask and took my temp before allowing me in the building. in the locker rooms, spots are designated and 6 feet apart. same on the bench. now, after having played, here are my thoughts: social distancing in ice hockey is NOT possible. this rink is doing all they can to minimize exposure. Everyone was good about staying in their spot in the locker room but once you’re on the ice that all goes out the window. There were 4 players on our bench but too often we were closer than 6 feet apart. I don’t see how it will work with as many as 12 on a bench. Right now the most useful precaution being taken by the rink is the temp check at the door. I don’t know yet what my decision will be in 3 weeks when our league resumes but anyone playing hockey right now ANYWHERE needs to accept that contracting COVID is a possibility.

that said, it was awesome to get out there in one of my new shells! :)

New England Sports Center has now moved back opening date to June 29th due to the State(MA). League is slated to start mid July. All part of phase 3 openings. Will see what hasppens when those dates arrive.

I wasn’t given any of the fine print yet but we just got word that our rink in southern Connecticut is re-opening on June 17th as part of phase 2 of the state’s reopening protocol and our league will open July 6th.

My son had a clinic last night. No locker rooms, home dress or in parking lot. Arrive 10 minutes prior to put on skates. Masks on right until they jumped on the ice. No sharing water. 1 spectator per skater. Leave 10 minutes after they got off ice. God it is good to see hockey again!! Hopefully I can get back soon!!

I played tonight in a private session. Had to wear a mask into and out of the rink, and I had to use my own water bottle (no sharing).

Otherwise was the same as always. Enjoyed a cold beer as I "quickly" got undressed. Full on checked my buddy because he's a cherry picking a-hole. Guys met in the parking lot post dress-down for more beers.

Bonus: I love my new sticks/gloves/pants/jerseys I got during this whole mess. I felt like a kid on Christmas.
