And vice versa. It's enlightening to find that there are a decent number of players who wear different sized skates. Maybe 5-10%? Are more of us in a similar situation and unaware? Anyone with knowledge or anecdotes, let us know. Thank you.

Pretty common. Your feet grow at different rates, as far as I know. My left foot is half a size larger than my right.

My right foot is a quarter size larger than my left. If I order customs I have it sized for them, but in retail skates I just go with a 9

When wearing retail, and thinking about it, can you tell one skate feels tighter?

I can feel one is looser. I'm a 9R and 8.75L so I get the 9s and use the power feet insert and tighten the left a drop more, but its usually ok

I'd argue it's way more than 5-10%, the real question is how big of a difference is there between the two feet and do most people notice?

My left foot is 1/4" longer than my right. I buy skates to accommodate the larger foot. It's not a drastic difference between the two feet so it's not too noticeable, but if I go the other way and fit my right foot, my left foot is way too crammed in the toe cap.

My right foot is a 1/4 size smaller than my left.  It's why my right foot has heel slip issues in certain skates.
