For $65 a stick, I decided to pick up some third line sticks and test out some new curves. I've been using the new Kovalchuk red line sticks for about 2.5 years and love them, so I decided to try the Spurgeon, Kempny, and Hossa as well.
Pictured: Kovalchuk, Spurgeon, Kempny, Hossa, P28. All blades are the same length, it just looks wonky in the pic. If you're a toe curve lover, you have plenty of options to choose from. The Kovalchuk and Kempny are nearly identical with the Kovalchuk having a bit more toe, the Spurgeon is close to both but has more of an open P92 heel and toe kink, the Hossa is similar to the Kempny but with a flatter heel, shaved down toe, and minimal rocker.
I'm taking the three new sticks on the ice on Thursday, so I'll report back with a review.
"What is your lowest/best price?" is NOT an offer.

All the curves felt very similar overall, but in my opinion: Kovalchuk > Kempny > Hossa > Spurgeon > P28
Wrist shots: Kovalchuk > Kempny > Hossa > Spurgeon > P28
Snapshots: Kovalchuk > Hossa > Kempny > Spurgeon > P28
Slapshots: Kovalchuk > Kempny > Spurgeon > Hossa > P28
Passing: Spurgeon > Hossa > Kovalchuk > Kempny > P28
Stick Handling: Spurgeon > Kovalchuk > Kempny > Hossa > P28
Toe drags: Kovalchuk > Kempny > Spurgeon > P28 > Hossa
Receiving passes: Hossa > Spurgeon > Kovalchuk > Kempny > P28

I've tried all builds available, red line, red line extra light, model E, G63, G63XL, and dans build (My favorite). I would say the red line mid kick feels similar to the 1N, but not the same. The 1N's release is a very easy loading stick compared to a red line mid kick. I would equate it to the Total One but the shaft dimensions are just off putting to me on the PRO sticks. No matter what dimension I get, square, rounded square, they all feel so boxy other than the super round which feels like you're playing with a thin intermediate shaft. They aren't concave as what Bauer offers either. I would say the low kick red line is closest to a Vapor 1X Lite. The customization and price are nice, but the products performance is not competing with top of the line twigs (but they don't claim to be so whatever). The intermediate sticks are indeed the same dimensions as the seniors.

Has anyone tried any build other than the red line? (I saw a comment earlier about a red line mid kick feeling like a 1st gen 1n and that has me beyond excited, that was the best stick ever) can anyone give an idea of what some of the builds with low/mid kicks feel like compared to some retail sticks? Also, are the intermediate sticks the same shaft dimensions as seniors (not including length)?
I've used the G63XL build as well as the Red Line. The G63XL is supposed to be more durable and hold up to slapshots, but I honestly don't notice a difference between the two on the ice.
Intermediate sticks have the same shaft dimensions as senior sticks. I order intermediate 70 flex sticks since I usually cut senior sticks down to 62" anyway.

Gotcha thanks for the input! What makes Dan’s build your favorite? I remember reading somewhere it was basically a G63 with the 15k carbon rather than 12k. Also what were your opinions on feel of the others and what retail builds would you compare them to?
I think the G63, G63XL are a just a bit blade heavier and the blade feel is a tad different on dans build. The PRO sticks are marketed to be the Bauer G3, Easton synergy build, etc. but let's be honest they don't have the same amount of R&D/engineering. PRO slaps whatever carbon fiber weaves together to LOOK like these builds but at the end of the day they are just blanks from a factory with all of the same tapers. Just my two cents from my experience with them

I absolutely loved the 1x lite sticks and could only wish the red line low kicks felt the same. IMO they don’t shoot anything like the 1x lite
What would you say they shoot like? I would say they generally equate to the tech of the top of the line sticks from a few/more years ago
