Since I'm on the hefty side, I've always had to wear L or XL pants so I've gotten use to wearing them on the longer side than some like. That being said, they're ysuallly mid-knee on me or just at the top of my knee.
This seems weird to me, because I'm 6'5 and I have to shorten my thigh boards up as high as they can go, to the point that they're not even properly velcro'd. If I wear them even at just the normal strapping they're too long for me.

I just bought a brand new XL 9K off of ebay. I'm 6' 225, my hips and waist (36-38 depending on the jeans/pants) are the reason I went for an XL instead of a large. I'm undecided if I like the fit at this point. I need to buy a shell to see how they will look but just wearing them around the house, the left hip cap sticks out very oddly. I can't figure out what is pushing it out, the right side is fine. Total or Pure hockey has a Bauer MX3 shell in stock that I'm going to pick up and see how it works out.
Ultimately I don't want to remove the tags, wear it once and hate it. I'm coming from a pair of Large Bauer Supreme 2 piece pro stock pants from around 2006.

I went to Total Pure hockey this weekend and bought an XL Bauer MX3 shell as that was the only one available. The MX3 shell is not going to work at all, too short and very tight fit over the 9k xl girdle. I don't know if I should cut my losses and sell the girdle or if I should buy another shell.

The MX3 shells run really small and short especially, def try a 9K/PP90 shell as they're more true to size. Hockeymonkey has their pro stock shells on sale right now, unfrtunately for me they only have XL and XXL in the 9K style shells, but lucky for you they'll work pretty well for you and are priced really low.
