Add me as another person who made the switch from pants to x60 girdle to 9k girdle. I love that thing and will replace it with another 9k when it finally bites the dust.

Yep loving my 9k girdle! Will never wear anything different! Another thing that I really like is the 9k girdle with no legs and throw on some lowers.

I've never tried this but this is next on my list. I imagine this closes the gap between girdle and pants? I figure if I dont like the lowers, I can always cut out the pads and use them as a shell.

So I just tried the large ccm pro girdle with a large reebok kings shell. I wear a large reebok 520 and thought that a large in a girdle would be fine! Well I find it a tad big but it could be the way I'm putting them on lol...the large shell seemed to hang down too low! I wish the shell had a belt!

Random girdle question, but I recently moved from Canada to the US and started playing hockey again after a long hiatus and noticed players with girdles and I had NEVER seen one. I played in Ontario for 14 years and I don't remember ever seeing anyone use one or one sold at any stores. I'm guessing they aren't that new or maybe not that popular at the minor hockey level?

You might be a little young to have been around when they were really popular. Searched a bit to find when they were first available but couldn't find a release date. I grew up in Ontario, graduated high school in'86 for reference of the time frame. They were invented mid-seventies and became really popular around the early 80s. They were introduced by Cooper, a sporting goods company that eventually got bought out by Bauer. They called them Cooperalls and had a short shell and a much maligned long pant shell that was used briefly by many youth, some Major Junior and even a few NHL teams. Most of the other manufacturers at the time quickly came out with versions of their own and they became very popular in minor hockey for a while. I was very resistant and a late adopter, and they had begun to fade from popularity by the time I tried a pair that a teammate was no longer using. In 30 years I have only tried pants for a couple of games since I made the switch. I find it to be a love them or hate them kind of thing. We live in Florida and I know several adults that use them, but I've never seen a teammate or opponent (not always easy to tell) of my 12 year old son with one. I wear a Bauer TotalOne and he wears an X60. We're upgrading him to a 9k this summer as he moves up to Bantam. If it weren't for my suggestion he try the X60 he would be wearing pants.

Great summary. That's really interesting. It was very foreign and new to me when I saw someone put one on. I had no idea what he was doing. But, it makes sense and I can definitely see it being a love or hate thing. Plus, the fit of pants these days are a little different if you've been away from the game for a while.

Anyone know if there is a difference between the 'Reebok' and 'RBK' branded 9k girdles?

i didnt think i would ever keep using a girdle and just go back to pants like before but  using this girdle is so much better, i overheat less, protected pretty good except a few questionable sections but they're the same as most pants.

Went to tackla pants and just couldnt use them, i guess i've become a full time girdle guy unless my new bauer pants convince me otherwise when they arrive

Big fan of the 9K girdle... I cannot complain at all, I feel that there is more protection and with multiple adjustments to customize the fit.  Very happy.

I'm still trying to get a 9K girdle.  I have a TotalOne right now that has served me well, but I'd really like to get a 9K.

Any of you guys have the problem of the tabs on the 9k shell not holding the shell up high enough? It seems to be kind of low.. enough to where the kidney padding on the shell is lower than the actual kidney, revealing the girdle underneath.

Yeah that can happen. Loops get stretched out, etc. You have a few options for tightening up the loops, most of which involve a Speedy Stitcher. Feel free to PM me if you want more specific directions.

I can't agree more! I don't fasten the girdle to shell loops now, instead I use a belt and hike it up higher.. So stoked now!

Really disliked the 9k girdle, found it bulky and heavy. Got my hands on an x60 girdle and like it a lot more because it's lighter and less bulky.

What are you guys using over your Dynasty girdles? Just picked one up in a Large. Obviously all my large pant shells are too big.

XL Retail Warrior Dynasty fits in XL Retail shell; make sure you get the retail Dynasty girdle shell and not the retail Dynasty pant shell (never used the pant shell I just figure it would not be ideal). With the retail girdle shell, the velcro tabs fit perfectly into the loops.

I also have a pro stock Pavelski shell (size Large Warrior 9K) that fits perfectly if I jack it up and cinch the belt.  When I use the velcro tabs, the shell sags about 3 inches below my knee and interfere with my stride.

For the record, at least one difference is that the newer Reebok 9k has a dual belt system instead of the standard single.  Much better IMO.
