Colin,
How bulky are these? Do u know if they are more or less than ccm cl or dynasty ax2? Also, what size elbow u wear in retail?
I wouldn't call them bulky. Not for the protection they give. If you're a beer leager and just want to make sure you don't fall on your elbow and injury it, they're more than you need. If you play where a hook or slash around the upper arm or the forearm is part of the game, then these will remove any worry about that.
I own and wore a medium in the Reebok 7K KFS retail (looks like http://www.prohockey...11_7k_elbow.jpg
) and the size 4 'Small' in the 7K Pro is perfect for me. The biggest single difference that makes the 7K Pro so much more comfortable than the retail 7K KFS is the way the top bicep guard is hinged/stitched. The Pro allows you to straighten your arm with pretty much no resistance - the 7K KFS retail gets in the way or prevents you from comfortably putting your arm perfectly straight - your arm is always bent/locked to some degree.
I liked the AX2 when I tried it on - so it's largely a price decision - but I definitely prefer the 7K Pro. I would rate them similar in terms of overall bulk, but again the 7K pro fits and moves so well the bulk is less apparent.
The CCM CL is not so directly comparable as it simply doesn't provide nearly the same level of protection. The forearm guard is a lot smaller and the materials less protective in general. A great elbow in itself - my 13 year old son wears them and has no complaints - he blocks a lot of shots too playing high level Bantam hockey - but if I had to take a two hander to the back of my arm or my forearm wearing the CL elbow vs. the 7K Pro it's a no brainer which one I'd choose!
Hope this helps,
Colin
