The slashing call was weak, but USA was warned earlier in the game about slashing the goalie after the whistle.

+1000 and it was the SAME girl ... One of the Lamoureux.

That Canadian call was ok but so was the US one... both team where head hunting and if you let one go like this the game will get out of hand.

They got a lucky break with the breakaway that was clearly a penalty shot.

Still a good paced game.

This was the first full women's hockey game i've ever watched. I would turn it on in prior years and get bored quickly. I'm impressed by the level of play from them now. It was a great game.

If only the empty netter went in

In a week of questionable officiating and video revues, I think the IIHF is very fortunate it didn't. While most of the other calls can be debated back and forth, as I'm sure they will be for quite some time. If that linesman caused a 2-1 game with a minute and thirty left to become 3-1 on that play, that would have made every Officials Worst Top 10 Blunders list for decades. How she could go to that spot is beyond me. She had to be the only person watching the game that didn't realize that was the one spot in the whole olympic sized rink she couldn't go. How could she not know the puck was headed right there? Then when she and the puck both get there at the same time, she tries to correct her mistake by backing right into the spot she should have known the Canadian defenseman would be.

Just out of curiosity are you Canadian? If you are , you would be saying exactly the opposite if it happened to you. To call those penalties in OT of a Gold medal game is just ridiculous. They weren't blatant and the cross checking penalty was a bit suspect. The refs in essence decided the outcome of the game. That should never happen especially on that stage. That being said... great game. Lets hope we get the same level of excitement today.

So you are saying that ... in OT you see somebody tripping someone on a clear breakaway you don't call anything?

Refs aren't the ones who decides games... stupid players making stupid decisions are.

You learn at 5 or 6 that it is better to take a penalty than to let the shooter go clear on a breakaway and i'm not blaming that D for tripping her (i actually blame the foward for making such a horrible pass).

Why is it that in any other major sports when ref calls something (nba, nfl, mlb, europeen fooball) everyone SHUTS UP but in hockey people say refs cost the game..... geeez

Anyway let's move to the game today.  I'm sure it will be great.

in football and basketball people complain all the time. a few years ago an umpire's liberal idea of the infield fly rule cost the Braves a chance to move on in the playoffs. hell, something happened in a european soccer game last week where a ref blew a call and they had his name and picture on the front page of the paper.

as for the breakaway, I still haven't seen a crosscheck out of that play that was hard enough to knock her down. somewhere I saw a quote that Wickenheiser said she wasn't sure it should've been a penalty.

always looking for non Reebok L & XL shells......

It was a penalty in any league. Crosscheck no, dive no, but definitely a penalty, regardless of what nationality you are.

What NBC wouldn't show you, but TSN would.

She impeded a player and cost Canada a scoring chance. That's a penalty. In regulation it be a penalty shot in any league but no way it is in overtime so had to be a 2 min penalty.

NFL Referee lockout 2013. EVERYONE complained.

After that play happened.

The regular referees where on the field the next week.
