Thanks to CCM, I was able to give the CCM Resistance helmet a early try.

Before the Resitance, my go to helmet was the CCM V08.

Specs

Product Tested: CCM Resistance Helmet

Color: Black

Size: Large

Price (MSRP): Canada: $249.99 / USA: $229.99

Web Site: http://ccmhockey.com/

Look

They kept it simple and modern. Unlike some of the other high end helmets, it does not feel too bulky on your head.

The mirror test was not a issue for me.

Comfort/Adjustment

The adjustment mechanism on the back is easy to use, and the helmet became instantly comfortable for me.

Protection

The new technology inside the helmet will blow you away. You will feel safer and more protected then any previous CCM & Reebok helmet ever released.

Definitions form the CCM Catalog:

The R.E.D. System is a series of liquid-filled bladders that allow for improved rotational deceleration of the head.

The Impact Pods: An engineered structure, combining EPP and a plastic shock absorber to help reduce linear forces caused by hits to the head.

If you have any questions about this product, please post them in this topic and I will do my best to answer you.

Thank you.

Hey Dupes, how would you compare the fit of the resistance to the v08. I love my v08 but its starting to feel tight on the temples. Does the resistance have a wider fit? Thanks

They were right when they told me my wallet was going to be taking a hit on this site.

It's all fine and dandy for a great skater like Dupes to try out a helmet but personally i'd rather hear the review from someone who falls a lot like me... :censored:

Thanks for the review.  Looking online, it looks like the sizing measurements are different for the Resistance v. the V08.  I'm a medium in the V08, but looks like I'm solidly on the borderline of medium and large on the Resistance.   I'm looking forward to trying one on for myself.

250 for us Canadians, it does seem excessive considering the Bauer Reakt is 50 dollars less, although I'm wondering if those prices might be for helmet/cage combo's and not the helmet by itself

For me it was the same size.,

Sizes:

Resistance

S 6 3/8 - 7

M 6 7/8 - 7 3/8

L 7 1/4 - 7 3/4

V08

S 6 5/8 - 7 3/8

M 7 1/8 - 7 3/4

L 7 3/8 - 7 7/8

230$ for a helmet lol

If you need to invest on a expensive piece of gear, the helmet is the best gear piece to put your money on.

Protecting your head properly, comfort and great looks, the Resistance has all 3.

The prices listed above, are without the cage.

I have to wonder how they plan to justify that, reakt and resistance are relatively comparable yet ccm's helmet is $50 more? What does the resistance do so much better than the reakt to justify that extra $50, they may lose sales by not putting it in the same ballpark as the reakt, although I guess the reakt 100 could very well have an msrp of $250 when it is released, but as of now that $250 seems to be a bit much when no one else is really around there for a helmet without a cage

Ppl will buy it. Retail skates are up by $1000 so I doubt it is trouble for those to buy This lid. I'll just either wait or buy from team.

FYI: the Re-Akt 100 will be more expensive then the Resistance.

Both CCM & Bauer are taking to a new level in terms of protection, hence the new prices.

Tried this on the other day.

While super light some things definitely stuck out for me. The helmet is extremely short at the back which is a huge selling point for most people but for parents especially. That's the biggest thing for me what I noticed right away. The helmet also looks incredibly long from a side view which most people can definitely get over but those are first impressions haha.

Other than that they're definitely light and the technology inside is pretty remarkable. I wish they made it a little more comfy but it's not bad at all! The back part being so short from a retail side of things is definitely worrying but hopefully the technology inside will sway people.

For $50 less I rather get a more comfortable helmet but than again it's all about fit for helmets. If it doesn't fit ya what good is any helmet really going to do.

Once again a company trying to capitalize on reactionary spending habits and a lack of understanding. Every CSA approved helmet will protect equally. You can get a concussion without ANYTHING hitting your head. Unless someone invents a helmet that actually HOLDS YOUR FUCKING BRAIN in place, a helmet will not prevent concussions. Concussions occur when your brain strikes the inside of your skull - often due to a sudden loss of momentum. The can happen if you're hit squarely shoulder to chest. Your brain doesn't have ligaments holding it in place. It is floating freely. Inertia is the cause of concussions, not shitty helmets. So yes, as TheRuz23 said, the 4500 does just as good a job as anything. To say your Bauer Re-Akt or CCM Resistance protects your head better than a 4500 or V-08 is like saying that a pair of Diesel jeans do a better job of covering your legs than a pair of Levis.

A few comments:

CSA/HECC provides a minimum standard.

Products can exceed the minimum standard, in fact, I'd bet most helmets do far exceed the minimum standards.

CCM doesn't claim that this helmet prevents concussions.

CCM says that the design of this helmet can reduce brain tissue strain.

It seems to me that a lot of development went into this helmet (and the REAKT) using different foams and configurations to help lessen the effects of several different kinds of impacts.  This helmet is apparently working to reduce rotational impacts, which is pretty novel in helmet design.  Most helmets simply protect from linear impacts.   My understanding from my internet reading is that most concussions are caused by rotational impacts.  If this helmet design helps with the rotational impacts, as advertised, then it does something other helmets don't.

I don't think anyone is saying that this is a helmet that will eliminate concussions. If you want to eliminate concussions, stop playing hockey. But you can most certainly buy helmets that are lighter, fit better, and disperse energy better than the minimum CSA/HECC standards. To say that all helmets that meet the minimum standard are equally protective is just wrong. Most helmets sold exceed these minimum standards.

In my mind, (and yeah, I meant to type that), if this works as advertised, then it's worth considering when looking at this helmet.

Thank you, that's exactly why helmets are offered at different price levels and with different technologies.
