What does having a high gloss blade instead of a standard blade do for your average player? Are there any advantages to having a certain type of blade, or is it purely cosmetic? Thanks!

Probably just grew up with it. The Bauer textured blades offer nothing other than a clean rip when you go to retape your stick. Hockey players are superstitious so they might not like having pimples on their blade?

Custom everything.

I would say pro's go for blade strength and durability. You rarely see any high-tech blade on from the 300$ sticks on what the pros use. They break way too easily.

I can't remember the last time I've seen a blade break on a high-end retail stick so I don't think that's it.

I'm no pro but personally I've only used sticks with sandpaper/sharkskin blades for as long as I can remember. Just like the feel and I'm fairly superstitious as well. Also helps keep my stick spending in check haha
