Hey what's Up Guys,
Just curious if there are any equipment managers here or any others who have dealt with skate mods after having ankle surgery.
Long story short, about 2 months ago I took a shot off a bad spot on my ankle causing a fracture and ligament damage which required me to get surgery. I now have a plate on my fibula, and 7 screws holding all in place. Still can't fit my foot in my skate yet as it's just way to swollen. Started physical therapy training last week, and finally applying weight on it. Estimated to be back light skating within 4 weeks. (*FINALLY!*)
There have been pro's who have dealt with the same injury: TJ Oshie & Taylor Hall. Wondering if there were any special modifications done to accommodate their foot post surgery. Eventually I am planning to have the hardware removed, but that cannot happen till the 6-10 month mark.
I may be jumping the gun here to say I will feel the hardware when I skate, as I really don't know. Guess it's just one of those things that time will tell. May have to re-bake, I'm not sure.
Anyway, the hard-part is over! Now it's all about moving forward! If anything, this had made me a stronger player and realize how much love I really have for the game.
Thanks in advance guys!

Once you're seriously ready to play nothing should change. The only thing I found was that the incision area was a bit tender for some time. So, I used my pair of Graf 703's with a softer liner than my normal G3's. I left the hardware in and things are fine just over 2 years post-injury. I skated at the 9-week point very lightly and picked it up gradually from there until I played again roughly 8 months after surgery. By the time I was ready to play my G3's were fine and the fit was just as it was before the injury.
