What is black edge? Their website only lists BLACKSTEEL, V-STEEL & STEPSTEEL?

Damn, those are some sharp blades you use. How much you weight?
I like mine quite sharp too but thats seems extreme

Finally put Step into the Edge holders after having them previously in my APXs and what a difference from LS4!

Beg to differ. Step steel is made of a better grade of steel and the coating is 10x better than blackedge.

If blackedge was really superior then NHL and other pro teams wouldn't be ordering massive amounts of this stuff which led to the lack of supply for the edge holder as of late.

The amount of pros using step steel is way more than any secondary aftermarket blade.

Blackedge doesn't make steel for the edge holder, so nothing for them to order for the edge holder

In what way did you see a difference?

Switched from LS Fusion to the Step Steel Black steel and have been skating with them for the past 3 weeks. First thing I noticed when hopping on the ice was that I could really feel the the ice imperfections.Other than that I got used to the new steel quickly.  The blades also show no sign of damage, which is quite the contrast to the LS Fusion.

Try using for 4-5 times without profile and see what you think. If you're not happy then get them profiled.

When I switched over my skating was all weird, the same pressure points and pushes you have are a little off. After about 3-4 sessions your body learns the profile better as you figure out how to use it.

What I did when I first got them was I attended a public shinny late night on a weekday where I knew attendance was sparse. Then I went and skated to try to learn the new steel. A couple sessions of this and I was fine.

Thank you for this.  I picked up Step Steel Black Steel recently and have played twice on them.  The 10' radius wasn't terribly different compared to the LS1 I had with 9' but I did feel my calf and ankle getting tired/sore a bit.  I think it might be what you mentioned about getting used to the new blades and my body making the slight adjustments.  Your post made me feel better about my situation... now only if I had a nearby rink I could skate at to get used to them, I'm stuck with only 1 or 2 beer league games a week so I have to adjust on the fly.

I'm thinking of purchasing some step steel for the first time coming from ls4 as I just broke mine. My only complaint with ls4 is how quickly I'd lose my edges. How does regular step steel for the edge holders compare? And does step steel come with a 10' radius stock?

Yes and Yes. You'll notice that the regular Step holds it's edge better and feels smoother to skate on compared to LS4

glad i could help.

Also to add to people questioning profiling. I have have a couple contacts that are pretty knowledgeable about step steel. They told me that you profile LS4 because even brand new, their profiles may be different on each left and right blade. The manufacturing process for LS4 supposedly has some consistency issues sometimes so they're not always perfect was what i'm told. Step on the other hand is laser cut so it's pretty precise therefore he told me that there was no need to profile step steel.

LS4's is pretty terrible in their opinions as well as mine. Only reason more shops aren't carrying Step lightspeed edge steel is due to pressure from bauer telling them not to because they don't want competition for their holder.

Also for whatever reason, Step isn't allowed to sell their Lightspeed Edge blades in the US.  I had to get mine through a Canadian pro shop on ebay and it came with a few markings on the Step packaging, and even engraved on the steel, how it is not to be sold in the USA.
