Looking for some help with skates and updates on the fit of new models. I am currently on my third revision Bauer custom (1S). I’m considering Vapor 2X Pro, Ultrasonic, and possibly CCM. The best feeling skate for me to date has been Vapor however I had a volume issue causing lace bite. Bauer said that they could build a Vapor skate but it may be better to start with the Supreme boot so less had to be modified. I was considering trying out a retail pair to see where to go from the blank canvas.

These are my current specs:
8.25 E/B left
8.0 EE/B right
Stock stiffness

+1 quarters and facing

280 Edge, 272 was not recommended due to width of the boot

Bobby Clarke supreme tongue shortened in length and width

Non-flex tendon guard

No eyelet reinforcement on a traditional eyelet. I wanted injected but they couldn’t do it on extended facing due to pre manufacturer of lacing pieces. Also it wasn’t allows without C flex tendon guard to match.

I’d like to give a vapor skate a go, maybe the ultra sonic or possibly CCM but need Some help with reviews from those who have worn them because I have not built a skate in almost 4 years. I typically put in a custom order before the latest model hits stores. I have no interest in True/VH

Sounds to me like you’re a Supreme fit but you’d rather wear Vapors and you’re looking for validation to justify going with the Vapors over what you know fits.

For what it’s worth, I wear a similar size and I’m in TRUE’s and they fit phenomenally...

Yes and no, each time I order I tweak a little bit and I tend to get in a smaller skate each time. At one time I was in +2 however I take small risks each time after significant consideration. The other thing that I am considering his typically at custom newer and more abundant options are available. Just like small fit changes at retail call become the baseline at a custom. I’m not implying that true skates are bad but I have invested too much time into Bauer over the years so unless CCM has something phenomenal I will probably stick with a variant coming out of Saint Jerome

Interesting approach by just going with brand loyalty considering you’re investing a good lump of money into something you don’t even know how to measure to know if it fits yet.

In all honesty man I’m not sure where you’re located but google some reputable shops that fit skates and that have been doing it for a while. If you’re in the gta I would be more than happy to put you in touch with some options.

I don’t think you’ll be getting what you’re looking for from hype beast hockey players on 2K. as Well as a majority of people with little to no custom skate fitting experience.

Good luck on your conquest, but I would be putting fit at the top of your list. Not brand or custom accessories.

My first skate fitting had me in MX3 9 3/8 L EE/B and 8 5/8 EEE/B right with +2. I went to the same shop that Eichel works with for his skates in MA and ended up in a refit that shrunk me down with my own work done. The third pair I did my own adjustments and am more than a full size smaller. There’s a difference between brand loyalty and starting from scratch. I’d be starting from scratch in CCM etc. I will most likely stick with Supreme but there are some strong hockey minds on this site, most is a bunch of BS but there are some in the know. I take my gripes from pros I know who have gotten their skates totally messed up, bad fit, botched orders etc. if they can bring up a pro pair that hard I can’t imagine a consumer like me is a higher priority.

See the part here that I don't get is that you admit that Bauer's weren't fitted properly by whoever did them initially. Then, "Ended up in a refit that shrunk me down with my own work done." Not exactly sure what you're trying to say here, but it sounds like you took it upon yourself to try to modify skates that don't fit your foot properly, not sure if the guys that didn't fit you properly were involved in this customization as well.

And this is the golden answer, that should be the solution to all your problems, but for some reason you refuse to acknowledge it. Based on your third fit, that you did by yourself, there doesn't appear to be any issues. Why don't you use the same metrics instead of trying to reinvent the wheel?

This one might sting since I know how obsessed you are with what pro's do, but there is less than a 5% chance that your skates were even made in the same time zone as the factory that is making the skates going to the NHL. Regardless of what you think you hear.

Screw up's in the NHL are usually due to the tight margins on time frame to have product in the players hands in a reasonable time, its not from lack of giving a shit or poor customer service.

Don't take equipment advice from pro's. Go find a specialist skate shop that know what they're doing. If you're in Mass. there are plenty. If you're in Michigan you should hop on MSH and ask JR who he would send you to for it.

Reputable shop one fit me way too conservative, fit 2 was a different shop, the same shop Hasek reached out to prior to the gold medal Olympic run. Fit 3 I tweaked some more. If I’m not reinventing the wheel I’m sticking with Supreme but I need to know what can be done now in that boot and what’s off limits. This was the issue in my 3rd pair. Bauer NCAA rep was there and gave me the wrong info and submitted the wrong specs for the order leading to a two month delay, a couple specs I didn’t want and a $200 kick back. I’m not unhappy with what I’m in now, just looking for them to get a bit better.

Spoke with some very in the know people about Bauer and at retail apparently it’s Fit 1/Fit 2/Fit 3 based on scan and lead by foot shape. Custom also starts with a mandatory scan for orders and it may not be as simple as “this is what I want” build it. Waiting on some confirmation.

Is the Fit 1, 2, 3 for the new line of skates (I.e. ultrasonic) that are supposedly having multiple options at retail, or are you saying that’s what they do for custom, as in after the scan they take one of 3 fit options and customize based on that.

At retail it’s fit 1, 2 or 3. Customs are different. I’m waiting on confirmation as to whether or not scans are required as the foundation for custom which it’s believed that they are.

FYI - I did a scan for my customs and it put me in a 9.5/9. I tried on an 8 2X pro and it fit perfect, so I went with a size 8. I'd recommend also trying on a skate and go from there.

No matter which company you go with the scan is most important for the shape, width & arch of your foot. The size is just a recommendation
