Question for you guys. Ive used P88 for a while and then went to P14 as i felt it was easier to raise the puck up close. One thing I didnt like about the P14 was that with passing and backhands. Passing was off sometimes and backhands were on and off. Love my one timers with p14. Now Im looking at getting a P92 but i feel like the lie is too high even though they claim to be lie 6 like the p88 and p14 (toe is off the ice; dont want to cut my sticks any shorter) So here is my question, is the P92 lie 5 more similar in lie with the p88 and p14 as apposed to the original p92? I just want to have as much blade on the ice as possible with my current shaft length. thanks

I have been using a Warrior Kopitar (P92 clone), and notice all these things you speak of: toe is off the ice, and the face is open, so pass reception can be dicey. I also have trouble passing, as the puck slips under the toe when I try to move the puck heel to toe on passes. If I just slap at the puck then I am usually ok. And lifting the puck in close is a breeze. There is great debate as to what the lie is. I think the Warrior lists it as lie 6, and the W88 Zetterberg (P88 Kane close) as 5. But , I can't comment on how Bauer does their lies.

Have you tried the Vanek? Sounds like the lower lie would help you out. Kopitar's listed as a Warrior 5, while the Vanek's listed as 4. The Vanek's not quite as open or deep, but still a similar curve profile.

My curve progression:

Drury->PP09 Ryan->Iginla->P88 Kane->P106 Richards + K14 Duchene

I play D and rarely get to take wrist/snap shots except to throw the puck on net from the point. I like my clappers to stay low, so I went from curve to curve looking for the pattern that would give me a low, hard slapshot. I don't understand how anyone can play with the Drury. It's way too open for me and not enough curve. Wristers are impossible with it. Recently, I've found some really nice sticks with more mild heel patterns than the Drury, so I'm back to using heel curves now. As long as I roll my wrists properly, I can keep the puck low to the ice.

It depends on what you're used to. I grew up with wood blades and a blow torch and so milder curves are far more familiar to me. Don't forget that people played forever and scored a lot of goals before the trend was for these toe curves, so it is all possible to do. Just have to practice and get familiar with the curve. I like the Darby/Drury and also the Zetterberg Pro curve.

I have not tried the Vanek yet. I just got back into playing hockey after a 17 year layoff, and it looks like the Vanek was discontinued before I made my return (within last couple of months). I was reading that Warrior has the Vanek on its customizer, but I am a 2 piece guy, and I doubt that Warrior is letting guys customize and buy replacement blades. So, my set up is: TotalOne Tapered shat, Warrior AXT1 blades (Kopitar/ Zetts so far). I had been considering the Burrows paddle, but I do not like the idea of a small paddle. When I cock back the stick and want to let a slap shot rip, I need all the face I can get. When I was a kid (last time I played), I always wanted a bigger hook with more loft, because I thought it would give me more wicked wrist shots. Now, I just want something nice and simple for catching passes, handling, and passing.

Right now. The w14 on my warriors. Have a v9e as well with an e3 sakic type. It would be perfect but the lie is taking time getting used to.

I have used many patterns. Not on purpose. Before I got into pro stock gear I just kinda went to a shop and picked up certain models that caught my eye. Held the stick and decided on it. Never really looking for a certain curve or lie.

Now I tend to lean towards a nice sakic like clone. Although I do stick with this pattern I have taking a liking to picking up a lidstrom/getzlaf from time to time. Love making passes with Lidstrom.

I also tried cammaleri and iggy this year. I find myself back to sakic pattern with the two new to pro stock Toffoli ccm cl u+ sticks I have coming.

I focus more on my other gear. I sort of enjoy trying new sticks and patterns. Never been crazed OCD about my stick. Some ppl I know are crazed that they MUST have certain pattern/lie.

Anyone know where I can get a Vanek tapered replacement blade?

Sorry for recommending a discontinued pattern, damn. I wasn't aware it had been removed from retail. I saw a Covert or something with that pattern in a store and thought it looked promising. I'm not surprised it didn't sell well enough to stay though. It's kind of a medium looking blade, not sexy enough to get people interested maybe. It's a shame they stopped making that pattern too. I'd have liked to try it.

For the past 3-4 yrs, ive used so many different patterns, pretty much tried all of the Bauer patterns. My fav. definitely has to be the P106 Richards.

After getting some time to get acquainted, definitely kreps. Though the Bauer Fisher kreps as opposed to the Easton one. It has less of a kink at the toe.

Agreed on the difference, bauer version is smoother and eastons has more of a sudden hook

Looking for retro Ducks set!
