The Powerfly holders are apparently much stiffer than the Edge holders, which I'd imagine a lot of pros prefer. I actually put Edge holders on all my skates (instead of the XS holders) because they flex nicely with the boot on turns, transitions, etc.

#386908 2X Pro 8.5/8.75D, 2X 8.5 Fit 2. MLX Size 7, LightSpeed Edge New

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 16 August 2023 - 09:36 PM in Skates - For Sale

How do the MLX fit compared to Easton Mako? I wear a 7.5 Mako and the 7 was slightly too small. Are they super heat moldable like the Makos and Trues?

Oh damn... those are cool as balls.

If you don't mind me asking, regarding the markers, what's the brand name du jour? Also, is there a white marker that's effective at covering other colors? I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist, but just curious.

I don't know the name, but I bought them at Michael's. They're grey with colored tips, alcohol based, and designed for textiles. You can only go darker than the original color (ie. cream to gold) and each logo requires a few coats. The color doesn't fade or wear off after 2-3 coats.

I did eight cuff swaps and one re-color for ccmcrazylightking, all done by hand with a sewing awl and waxed thread. The Yandle gloves started out as regular black/white Flyers gloves, then I recolored the logos to gold (Flyers 3rd/WC) using permanent alcohol-based markers that are designed for embroidery.

I combined an older Coyotes CCM 9K with an Easton shell to create a custom "Easton 9K" girdle shell. I took the top piece and CCM logo from the older shell and attached them to the Easton shell, then finished by sewing on the GGS logo. It fits well on both my Warrior QRE and Bauer NXG girdles.

I am using Vapor LTX Pro+'s
Bought them this spring when my Warrior ones started to crack.

I'd upgrade your shin pads if you want more protection. The LTX Pro+ are a mid-level SMU (special make up) model of the Vapor line, which is designed to be lightweight and form-fitting. Trying to modify them with foams and carbon fiber would alter the fit and in my opinion, be a waste of time. Right now, there is nothing on the market with more protection than the CCM Super Tacks ASV line. Expensive, but worth the extra protection and peace of mind. I have the previous model (Super Tacks AS1) and they're the most protective shin pads I've ever worn.

I wouldn't recommend messing with shin pads too much. You can add D3O foam like previously mentioned, but it'll alter the fit. Which model are you using? I'd recommend finding something from the made in Sweden Jofa/Reebok line or (easier to find) Super Tacks line.

Holy cow Jake, those look great!

What do you mean by ‘recolor’?

#387078 CCM "Pro Camp" Elbow Pads?

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 02 September 2023 - 10:23 AM in Pro Stock Hockey Gear

These look like AliBaba knockoffs of the U+ CL pads. I'd avoid them unless you're looking for something super cheap for pond hockey.

14" Tacks sounds like your best bet. I have a hard time wearing any other 14" gloves, but I can make 14" Tacks work.

It looks to be for bandy, which is another ice skating sport that is popular in Sweden.

#386627 CCM Skate Toe Box

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 20 July 2023 - 03:17 PM in Hockey Gear

I had the same issue with the toe box on a pair of 100K's, but on the big toe side. I used one of these with good results: https://www.icewareh...-EANKLEPAD.html. If your local shop has them in stock, maybe they will allow you to take one out of the package and put it in your boot for reference.

Otherwise, check to see if any shops near you use a Custom Skateworks boot punch. I have one and it has the ability to punch out toe boxes. https://www.instagra...fBhwAcuV/?hl=en

#388395 Check out this scam store

Posted by Golden Gate Sharpening on 25 January 2024 - 04:37 PM in Off Topic

There are a lot of scams out there lately. I see a lot of fake sticks and jerseys on SLS. If a bunch of two packs of $360 retail, top of the line, current model sticks are being listed for ~$440, they are most likely counterfeit. CCM and Bauer would never let an authorized retailer sell their sticks on SLS for way under the minimum advertised price.

fake sticks?

Yes, fake sticks. These sticks are produced in China and basically "blackout" sticks with inflated prices. They are about 50 grams heavier than the models they are trying to replicate. There are many SLS users that are selling these sticks and passing them off as legitimate. The #1 way to tell that a stick is fake is the price; if it's too good to be true, it is. Bauer and CCM will crack down on anyone selling their sticks for under their $360 minimum advertised price, so if someone is listing a large amount of brand new, retail top-end sticks for $220 each, they are most likely fake. You may not be able to tell if the stick is fake from the pictures, but can notice discrepancies in the graphics when looking up close.
