that's an absurd price for those Kovys, especially since there's no mention of COA and as you said, those were eevrywhere but Meigray stuff is always higher.

at one time I had a photomatch for those Team Russia Luxes that are slightly different than most of the others that you see. I'm not really sure what I'd sell them for because the fact is, they aren't for sale though I do agree with you that everything has a price.

I had a Winter Classic Caps shell that a member here pleaded with me for MONTHS to sell. I kept saying no but when he got close to $500 I couldn't refuse anymore.

 

that fact is, Pavel Demitra isn't quite the superstar status of Kovalchuk but as I said before, if someone wants to pay $1000 for those gloves, go for it. it doesn't prove or disprove that I or others think that's overpriced.

That isn't a fact. Demitra and Kovy both averaged just under a point a game in their careers. Both had 90+ point seasons. Both were 3 time All Stars. Demitra was a plus player his whole career, Kovy was always a defensive liability (heavy minuses for 12 seasons).

 

The biggest fact, that you sadly didn't know, is Demitra passed away 9 years ago. Which is a major reason why the gloves are going for that much. This is why you shouldn't be quick to comment on what is overpriced when you have no clue who you are even talking about

I once had a pair of MIA Demitra gloves from the Kings. it was very similar to this pair:

 

I bought them off of eBay from a guy in Russia the night before the plane crash. I wasn't sure the guy would still send them but to his credit, he did. I held onto them for a long time, never able to use them because of the tragedy. after a few years I sold them to a member here who was known to be a huge Demitra fan.

in retrospect my sarcasm about "maybe it's Demitra that's bid on them" was in poor taste and for that I apologize to anyone that was offended.

 

every few years we go over this topic in this thread and every time people on both sides get high and mighty about what things are worth. you and others have one opinion on value while myself and others have another opinion.

Currently $2550 with 2 bidders... I think it’s safe to say the adage “it’s worth what someone is willing to pay” holds true here.

Definitely going for ALOT more than expected in my books but you never know. Maybe a super fan, family member, former teammate, who holds the value much higher than an average collector. Seems like there are at least 2 of the above interested.

generally? yes. I have a pair of Madden's Wild Luxes that were signed on the thumb. a little scrubbing with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and you can barely see it. my pair of Pavel Demitra MIA's that I won on Ebay the night before the plane crash? no way. it wasn't my intention to put them up on a shelf but I feel it's the right thing to do.

 

 

another post from around that time confirms that I paid only $75 for them. worth it to me and likely would've been willing to part with a little more at the time, even before the crash.
