Do you think most retail customers, especially kids between 12 to 18 years old, know the difference between a APX2 versus 1X versus 1X lite? I’d argue at best they see Vapor versus Supreme versus Nexus. Hell I play on three men’s league teams, and most guys don’t know the difference between the retail lines. They get whatever feels the best on their hands at the store.

Look at Gustafsson from the Blackhawks. He was/is wearing CCM HG97 with a Bauer cuff roll. Kids just see a player wearing Bauer, and lean towards that brand at the store.

In my opinion, the retailers come out with new models each year to get parents to pony up cash for the hottest new gear. Getting pros in it is just icing on the cake.

That's true too. For the most part, Bauer probably only cares about making sure their top sponsored guys are in the latest product.

 

The wide range of Vapor family gloves just seems so weird compared to Supreme or Nexus. In terms of guys wearing Supreme, pretty much everyone wears 1S gloves, only seen a handful of guys change to 2S mitts. You never see anyone wear MX3 or TotalOne NXG gloves anymore.

its true that kids see bauer gloves on player X, don't understand/know what model they are, or even care. so in that sense, branding wins. sticks and skates are the most noticeable as far as lines go hands down. gloves aren't as easily noticed, plus guys in the show like what they like.

This is why I find it odd CCM can't get McDavid off the OG Supertacks graphics on his sticks. Or even graphic his jetspeed skates like the newer model that Bauer does with their techmesh skates.

maybe he simply doesn’t want to. It works for him and he sort of seems very particular about these things. He is wearing FT1 gloves and I think he’s tried FT2 skates.

IMO the boot shape does not look like either FT1 or FT2 unless it is the angle. Looks real flat along the back from heel to tendon guard

When CCM was teasing the AS1 skate on Instagram you could see Brent Burns' skates had the Jetspeed quarter facing so it's not out of the question that CCM is redressing skates now. Plus it would be easier to redress monocoque composite boots than it would tech mesh stuff.

I imagine McDavid has completely custom skates with whatever graphics. They might look like Jetspeeds but I bet if you put them next to a retail JS they would bare little to no resemblance

 

I imagine all the high level guys would have this for the most part

He’s been using FT2 this year in the pre season and switched back to his Super Tacks stick, I doubt CCM is gonna try to tell their poster boy what he should do though lol here’s a better look of the new Tacks AS2 skates btw

I like those AS3 skates but the new one piece boot style CCM is doing, I have custom FT2s from launch and the graphics are already completely mangled and fall off daily, kind of disappointing in that regard

Funny how their keeping the custom colors going at the NHL level but now at the NCAA Div 1 level its retail graphics and pretty much stock curves only. Certain players are allowed to order full customs but most will have to choose between retail curves and minimal pro curves (P92M, P28M, etc). No more custom colors or team logos for colleges!

I heard about this. Disappointing to be honest, having team colors and logos on sticks were the coolest things about college gear.
