Anyone that is going to pay $100 for a pair of socks needs to take their medication. That is ridiculous.

When Boston auctioned their game used Winter Classic socks on NHL Auctions a few years ago, the cheapest pair went for $150.   So these are actually comparatively cheap.

You probably need to realize that there's a difference between memorabilia and the stuff you're going to pick up at a sale and strap on at the local rink.

Much of the Winter Classic stuff is priced as memorabilia.  If your plan was to buy memorabilia and show up at the rink to look cool in your Winter Classic socks, then I'd say you're the one needing the examination.

Sorry, but I'll take that as an opportunity to explain the difference between the game worn memorabilia market and the pro stock pick ups that people make at other sales.  There's pretty obviously a group of people in here who could benefit from realizing the difference.

I'd have probably responded differently if the question was "hey, does anyone know why WC socks cost $100?"

But that wasn't the statement he made, was it?

 

I'll go add the smiley so he realizes that I think wearing memorabilia to a beer league hockey game was meant to be amusing.

I won't spend that. Those would be cool, but I have things higher on my priorities list than a pair of socks.

I went to the Toronto Maple Leafs sale today and it was amazing.

 

They dropped all of the prices on everything since most of the stuff left was from former players or the AHL team:

 

-all sticks $75 except for phaneuf who was $100

-all pants and shells $50

-all gloves $50

-helmets $50

-practice jerseys $50

 

They also had a rack of bolland jerseys for $30 down from $199

WIsh I went Sunday! Some grabovski sticks for 50 bucks down from 175 was just what I wanted...oh well.

 

Still managed to pick up a sweet pair of 9.5 A/E total one NXGs with heel lift and custom tongues for 200 bucks. Best deal I could find on Saturday!
